The Thought of Sim San Kim Chang-sook and Its Contemporary Significance

심산(心山) 김창숙(金昌淑)의 사상은 영남유학의 두 거두인 퇴계(退溪) 이황(李滉)과 남명(南冥) 조식(曺植)의 영향을 받아 형성되었다. 그에게는 퇴계가 강조하였던 ‘경(敬)’과 남명이 ‘경’과 함께 강조하였던 ‘의(義)’가 실천유학으로서 중요한 의미를 가지고 있었다. 이처럼 퇴계학과 남명학의 커다란 영향을 받은 심산의 사상은 선비정신․절의정신․통합정신․실천정신․민주정신 등으로 구성되어 있다. 그리고 이러한 심산 사상이 현대인들에게 주는 함의와 교훈은 첫째, 사회지도층 인사들에게 ‘노블레스 오블리주’ 정신의 중요성을 가르쳐주고 있으며, 둘째, 지식인들에게는 지행합일(知行合一)의 가치를 일깨워주고 있다. 셋째, 극단적 이기주의로 치닫고 있는 현대인들에게 공동체를 위한 대의(大義)가 무엇인지를 가르쳐주고 있고, 넷째, 물질과 정신의 가치관 전도의 문제점을 지적하고 있으며, 마지막으로 국민통합과 남북통일을 이룩하기 위해서는 무엇보다도 통합정신이 필요하다는 점을 가르쳐주고 있다. 따라서 우리 사회의 지도층 인사들은 스스로 도덕적 의무를 실천함으로써 건강한 공동체의 육성에 앞장서야 할 것이며, 젊은이들에게는 물질적으로 풍요롭게 사는 방법을 가르치기 이전에 바르게 사는 자세부터 가르쳐야 할 것이다. 미래 세대에게 올바른 가치관 교육을 시켜야 하는 것은 현 세대의 책임이다.

The thought of Sim San Kim Chang-sook was inherited from the Teogye(退溪) Lee Hwang(李滉) and Nammyung(南冥) Jo Sik's thought. The key factors of Sim San thought are Sun-bi spirit, justice, integration, activism, and democratic spirit. These spirits teach us as follows.: In the first, the leading people of our society should practice ‘noblesse oblige’. Second, our knowledge and behavior should be harmonized. Third, the great cause for our community is very important. Fourth, the spiritual value is more important than a material value. and Finally, the integration spirits is needed for national integration and the unification of the Korean peninsular. Therefore, the leading people of our society should develope a healthy community, and at the same time teach the young people the spirit of justice and correct behavior. To teach a correct values to the next generation is a important responsibility of the present generations.
