제주문화의 가치는 그 원형적 상징성을 지니는 것과 동시에 문화의 유전자가 오롯이 내재되어 있음을 의미하며, 획일적인 사고 또는 서구적 인식으로는 재단할 수 없는 그 무엇이 있다. 그것은 오랜 기간 동안 축적되어 온 제주인의 문화유산이자 문화원형으로서 神性과 民衆性을 잘 대변하고 있기 때문이다. 특히, 제주의 공간은 외부 문화의 유입･융합･정착의 과정에서 고유문화로 성장할 수 있는 배경이 되었으며, 신화의 원형이 생성되고 다양한 문화의 통로 역할을 수행하였다는 점에서 제주문화는 자체적으로도 독창성을 지닌다. 때문에 제주문화는 시간과 공간 속에 인간의 생활문화가 응축된 형태를 보이지만, 독창성을 기반으로 다른 문화에 개방적 성향을 보임으로써 독특한 형태의 문화 융합을 이룬다는 특징을 지닌다. 이것은 제주의 역사문화자원을 문화콘텐츠로 전환하는데 있어 다양한 매체를 활용할 수 있다는 장점을 드러냄과 동시에 다방면에서 활용할 수 있는 가능성을 시사해준다.
The value of culture of Jeju has its primitive symbolism and contains the entire cultural genes, which means that there is something in Jeju that cannot be measured by standardized thoughts or western perspectives. This is because the culture of Jeju is well representing holiness (神性) and attribute of people (民衆性), as a cultural heritage and an original form of culture of the people in Jeju that has been accumulated for a long time. In particular, since the space in Jeju became the background to develop the culture into a unique culture during the process of inflow, convergence and settlement of foreign cultures, created the original form of myth and served as a channel to various cultures, the culture of Jeju has originality by itself. Therefore, while the culture of Jeju is in a condensed form where the human life culture is isolated in time and space, it also is open to other cultures based on originality, featuring the distinctive form of cultural combination. Such characteristic demonstrates the strength to be able to use various media to convert the historical cultural resources of Jeju into cultural content, and implicates the possibility to use the resources in many ways.
