이 논문은 한국 문학 연구의 또 다른 가능성과 윤리에 대해 성찰해보기 위해 씌어졌다. 연구 대상으로서의 텍스트는 다양한 생산 주체들의 참여에 의해 구성된 복합적이고 다층적인 것이다. 그런 다층성을 향해 나아가고자 하는 것이 연구자의 욕망이며, 반대로 텍스트의 심층을 향한 연구자의 그런 욕망이 텍스트의 다층성을 생산해낸다는 점에서, 그 욕망과 대상은 서로 반영적이다. 이 논문에서 텍스트의 무의식이라 부른 것은 텍스트 생산에 참여하는 그러한 초월론적 힘의 복합을 지칭하는 것이다. 텍스트 생산의 이런 과정 속에서는 텍스트 생산의 물리적 주체인 작자도 특권적일 수 없으며 단지 생산에 참여하는 하나의 요소에 불과하다. 텍스트는 다양한 힘의 상호 작용에 의해 구성되는 것이므로 어떤 텍스트도 흠 없이 완벽할 수는 없으며, 텍스트에 존재하는 그런 기형적이고 비정상적인 부분들을 텍스트의 증상이라 부른다. 그것은 텍스트의 특이성을 담지하고 있는 정체성의 보증자이며, 그것을 통해 우리는 텍스트의 무의식에 접근할 수 있게 된다. 이 논문에는 『무정』 『금색야차』 『적과 흑』의 증상들을 분석함으로써 그 실례를 제시하고자 했다. 텍스트에 대한 이런 방식의 접근을 시도하는 것은 그 자체가, 현재 한국에서의 문학 연구가 처해 있는 차가운 상황을 암시하고 있다. 텍스트의 귀환이라는 모토를 통해 문학 연구의 새로운 동력원을 모색하고자 했던 것도 이런 상황에 대한 대처하기 위함이다. 욕망이 충동에 대한 방어일 수 있다면, 연구자의 욕망의 경우도 마찬가지이다. 텍스트의 무의식을 향한 분석의 기율이 그 자체로 연구의 동력이자 윤리가 될 수 있는 것은 그 때문이다.
This paper presents another possibility of researching modern Korean literature and its ethics involved in such reserch. Text, as the object of research, is a complex product of various subjects. The desire of a researcher to grasp the core of that complexity makes retroactively its object. We call it the unconscious of text, that is the complexity of transcendental factors of text production. Even tht author of the text is only one of them. Text that is composed of various factors cannot be flawless. 'The flaw' of it can be called the symptom of text which represent its singularity and allow us explore the unconscious of it. I have tried to illustrate this aspect by analyzing three novels, one each from Korea, Japan and France. With the motto "the return of text"(not "the return to text"), I want to find a new way of thinking the ethicality of researching contemporary literature. If desire is a defense against drive, so is that of a researcher too. A analysing the unconscious of text, in itself can form the ethicality of a researcher.
