이 논문의 연구 목적은 문학 작가들의 창작 환경과 문예지에 대한 인식을 조사·분석하여 문예지의 문제점과 개선 방향을 모색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 실시한 설문자료(총 응답 작가 220명)와 문예지 관련 실태, 지표 등을 종합 분석한 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 문예지의 역할은 작가들의 창작 환경과 직결되어 있다. 작가들에 대한 안정적 창작 기반 제공을 위해서 문예지의 다양성과 공공성 제고, 새로운 매체 환경에 부응하는 문학적 수요 창출 방안이 절실하다. 문예지의 새로운 출구로 가장 먼저 제시된 것은 종이책 일변도에서 전자책으로의 전환, 또는 병행이다. 다음으로는 매체의 성격과 대상 독자층에 따른 문예지의 다양화였다. 이어서 문예지에 요구되고 있는 과제는 한국문학의 시야가 국내에 한정되지 않도록 하는 국제적 소통 능력의 확보였다. 이를 위해서는 정부 지원기관의 문예지 지원정책을 당면 과제에 맞게 설계하고, 지원 대상 선정 심사에 질적 평가와 더불어 정량적 평가를 실시할 필요가 있다. 객관적 평가지표의 확보를 통한 정량적 평가의 강화는 심사 과정에 대한 신뢰도를 제고하고 지원 효과도 높일 수 있는 유력한 방안이다.
By studying Korean writer’s views on their writing environment and literary journals, this study aims to identify their problems and also explore ways to improve them. The conclusion of this study, based on a survey of 220 respondents and relevant statistical resources, is as follows:Literary journals directly influence a writer’s creative environment. It is necessary for literary journals to become more diversified and to adapt to the new media environment in order to offer a secure foundation for a writer’s creative activities. Worth considering are the active use of an e-book format within literary journal publication itself, as well as the diversification of literary journals based on the character of a journal or the kind of readers, and an exploration into international literary communications. It would also be desirable for governmental institutions to refer to these findings in administering their support for literary activities, and to secure objective standards, such as an ABC system for their support criteria.
