본고는 영남문화연구원에서 지난 15년 동안 수행한 연구의 현황을 검토한 다음, 향후의 연구 방향을 제시해 보고자 한 것이다. 영남문화연구원에서 그 동안 수행한 연구 가운데 가장 주목할 성과는 ‘낙동강유역의 인간과 문화’ ‘고문서를 활용한 영남지역 생활문화 연구’ ‘영남지역 고문서 아카이브 구축과 계층별 생활사 연구’ ‘권역별 거점연구소 협동번역사업’ ‘경북 주요종가 소개책자 및 영상물 제작’ 등 5종이었고, 기타 ‘문헌·서지’ ‘인물’ ‘유물·유적’ 등에 관한 연구가 비교적 활발하였다. 그러나 이런 연구의 이면에는 장기지속적인 과제의 부족, 외부 의뢰에 편승한 수동적인 연구 편중, 연구대상 선택의 엄정성 부족 등과 같은 문제가 있었다. 향후에는 우선 이와 같은 기존 연구의 문제를 극복할 수 있는 방법론을 가다듬는데서 시작해야 할 터인데, 이를 위해서는 먼저 콜로키엄의 활성화가 필요할 것으로 보았다. 그리고 구체적 연구에 있어서는 현재 진행 중인 연구를 보완하고 확대하는 차원의 연구, 예컨대 ‘주요 문헌의 역주’ ‘종가 연구의 이론 보완과 아젠다화’ ‘인물 연구의 체계화’ 등을 추진할 필요가 있겠고, 지금까지 유의하지 못한 대상, 예컨대 ‘정체성과 관련한 상주지역’ ‘대구 경북에서 주목받고 있는 세계문화유산’ ‘기존 연구에서의 소외지역’ 등의 연구에 특별히 유의할 필요가 있다고 보았다. 그러나 모든 연구는 결국 인재 확보와 제도 정비 문제로 귀결될 수밖에 없다. 따라서 향후에는 이런 문제 해결에 연구 못지않게 유의해야 할 것이다.
This paper examines Youngnam Culture Institute's 15 years of research results, and presents the future research direction. The most noteworthy research achievements of Youngnam Culture Institute include the following five areas: Humans and Cultures in the Nakdonggang River Basin; Research on Yeongnam Region's Lifestyle Culture Using Historical Documents; Construction of Archives of Yeongnam Region's Ancient Historical Documents and Research on History of Lifestyles by Class of People; Joint Translation Project between Regional Hub Research Centers; and Production of Major Gyeongbuk Head Families Handbooks and Videos. Studies on other literature and biographies, historical figures, historical relics and remains have also been actively conducted. But, behind these studies were a lack of long-time projects, passive research activities based on external requests, and a lack of appropriate selection of targets of research. Future research should begin by improving the methodologies designed to overcome these research problems, and towards that end, first, colloquium should be activated. Also, with regard to specific research, there is a need to complement and expand ongoing studies, such as annotation of major literature, theoretical complementation for research on head families and putting them into /agenda, and systemization of research on historical figures. Further, there is a need to pay special attention to targets receiving little attention, such as Sangju related to stagnant development, World's cultural heritages receiving attention in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, regions excluded from existing research. However, all studies should boil down to the securing of talented researchers and improvement of relevant systems. Thus, these problems should be tackled as hard as the research itself.
