테러는 적은 비용으로 단순하고 제조하기 쉬운 위험한 물건을 이용하여 인명 사상, 건물 손괴 등이 가능하며 해킹과 같은 사이버 테러를 통해 사회 질서를 마비시킬 정도의 피해를 극대화 하는 파괴력이 높은 행위이다. 전쟁으로 인한 물질적·정신적 피해보다는 테러 주체 국가 내지 단체의 피해를 최소화하고 상대국에 최대의 피해를 줄 수 있는 테러는 계속 증가하고 있는 이유이다. 특히, 우리나라는 다른 어떤 나라보다 테러 발생 및 그 가능성이 매우 높은 상황에 있다. 바로 북한과의 휴전 상태이기 때문이다. 현재 북한은 경제·군사·문화 등 우리나라와 비교 했을 경우 열등한 상태로서 전쟁 발생 시 북한의 패전 가능성으로 전면전은 지양한 반면, 공산주의 이념을 통한 체제 유지의 한 방법으로 우리나라의 민주주의를 계속 위협하고 있다. 따라서 우리 국민은 그 어느 때보다 안보의식이 강하게 요청되는 시기이다. 또한 북한 테러 가능성에 대해 항상 인식하고 있어야 한다. 신세대라고 표현되는 현재 대학생은 1990년대 출생하여 최근까지 성장하며 북한의 대남 도발 사건은 대표적으로 천안함 사건, 디도스 사건과 핵무기 개발로 인한 위협이 있었지만, 전반적으로 안정적인 사회이었다고 볼 수 있다. 현재의 대학생의 안보의식은 향 후 우리나라의 안보와 직접적으로 연결된다. 또한 북한의 테러 발생 가능성에 대한 인식도 안전한 사회 구축을 위해 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 사회 진출을 앞둔 대학생을 중심으로 안보의식과 북한 테러에 대한 인식 관계를 살펴보았다. 연구결과 안보의식은 북한 테러에 대한 인식과 북한 테러 관심도, 안보의식의 하위변인인 국가신뢰는 북한 테러에 대한 인식과 북한 테러 관심도, 안보의식의 하위변인인 조국애는 북한 테러에 대한 인식에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
