This paper could be a preliminary trial to suggest an approach of critical locality studies through locality-Based understanding. Established regional studies and current locality studies have often tended to incline not only to the commodification of regions or anti-globalization localism but also to the elitist perspectives making locality itself an essential value. I assume a critical position toward those currents in and out of the academy. First, the historical processes, that the production of modern space and the mechanism of violent expulsion had formed and developed mainly in England, are presented relating to the production of modern language during the period of enclosure movements. I keep an eye on the processes that borders and spaces constructed by modern concepts had separated people from land(labor․relations․culture). Modern concepts squarely defined the meanings of words dumping the complexity, ambiguity, and cultural foundations of the meanings of traditional words generated on the land and dynamics of people's relations. Second, I try to illuminate the potential of the beyond places(positions) and voices(perspectives) divided by separations and expulsions in modern societies. This exploration means that it ascertains the predicament and potential of in-between or interstitial spaces subsumed/excluded and invaded/looted mentally and materially by the power of modern space. Finally, the (im)possibility of locality-Based understanding will be discussed relating to the self-reflection of modern research(er) in the processes of approaching and understanding the places and voices from those.
