김주영 소설에서 악은 시스템의 구조적 악을 폭로하고 그것에 저항할 뿐만 아니라 근원적 차원의 파괴욕을 보여준다. 시스템이 본능적 욕망의 충족을 금지하는 아버지의 법 일반을 의미한다면, 악과 파괴욕은 본능충족 소망을 내장한 일종의 환상이다. 김주영 소설의 또 다른 핵심적 모티프인 관능과 야성 역시 본능충족적 환상을 구현한다. 이를 아버지에 대한 거부로 해석할 수 있다. 그러나 시스템을 교란하고자 하는 욕망은 이용당하거나 사육된다. 시스템은 너무나 견고해서 일개 파괴욕으로 파쇄 불가능할 뿐 아니라, 개인의 욕망을 조작하고 조종하기까지 한다. 김주영의 출세작인 ‘출세를 꿈꾸는 촌놈들의 실패담’ 계열의 소설들은 개인의 계측범위 바깥에서 뒤통수를 치는 막강한 시스템을 부각하는데, 이는 본능충족을 억압하는 아버지의 법의 완강함을 보여주면서 아버지에 대한 공포를 암시한다. 본능충족 소망은 백일몽에서만 위력적이었다. 아버지에 대한 거부와 공포는 김주영 소설의 근간을 이루는 원형적 구도로 보이며, 이는 오이디푸스 콤플렉스를 겪는 소년의 그것과 동형이다. 유년을 다룬 김주영 소설은 아버지에 대한 거부와 공포의 원초적 심상을 보여준다.
In the novels of Kim Joo-young, the evil exposes the great constructive evil of the system and resist it. The evil implies the existence of the desire for the destruction. System means the Father's law that prohibits the instinctive desire. The evil and the desire for the destruction, sensuality and feral instinct are sorts of fantasy to satisfy the instinctive desire. This is a rejection for the Father. However, the system is so robust in the novels of Kim Joo-young. The system does not collapse by one desire for the destruction. The system controls and manipulates the individual's desire. Kim Joo-young shows the recognition about a powerful system in his novels. That shows the stubbornness of the Father's law to suppress the individual's desire. The hope to satisfy the desire is possible only in the daydream not in the reality. Such recognition is accompanied by the fear for the Father. The rejection and fear for the Father seem archetypal composition that lies in the roots of almost every novel of Kim Joo-young. It is the same as that of the boy to undergo the Oedipus Complex.
