2011년 중학교 2학년 역사(상), <삼국의 사회문화>부분 서술내용은 기존 고등학교 국사 사회 문화부분을 요약 정리한 성격이 강하다. 이를 보완하기 위해 최근 한국고대사학계의 연구성과를 반영하고 발굴성과 및 각종 박물관전시 내용의 적극적 활용이 요청된다. 아울러 사실상 중학교 2학년시기에만 선사, 고대에서 조선전기까지 한국 전근대사를 배우게 편성된 현행 교육과정은 역사 정체성확립과 역사교육이 심화, 반복학습으로 이뤄진다는 점에서 재고되어야 한다. 또한 기존 국정교과서수준보다도 더 심화된 내용이 기술되어 학생들의 수업부담이 가중되는 경향을 보여주고 있다. 따라서 교과서 내용이 보다 더 쉽고 이해를 위한 서술방법 모색이 요청된다. 한편, 집중이수제 등에 의해 1학년에서 역사를 배우는 등 학교별 대응상황이 달라 교과서 이해의 심도차가 발생하는 등 교육과정에 대한 개편도 요구된다.
