단군민족주의란 단군을 민족공동의 조상으로 상정하고 단군 자손으로의 동질성인식에토대하여 민족적 정체성을 확인하고 민족의 통합과 발전을 도모하려던 일련의 사상(의식)운동이다. 또한 한국종교사 속에서의 단군민족주의는, 우리 민족의 단군을 통한 집단정체성이한국종교사 속에 어떻게 드러나는가와 흡사한 말이 된다. 그리고 근대 단군민족주의의종교적 양상을 대표하는 집단이 대종교다. 대종교는 전래 단군민족주의의 연결자로서격변의 시대에 단군민족주의를 부활시켰으며, 그 정신으로 그 시대의 질곡을 헤쳐 나가는동력을 제공했다. 나철의 대종교 중광은 절망적 현실 속에서 민족적 자긍심을 북돋워 준사건으로써, 우리 민족사의 전반에 커다란 변화를 몰고 왔다. 특히 일제강점기 무장투쟁⋅문화투쟁⋅정치사상투쟁 방면에서의 독립운동은, 근대 종교적단군민족주의의 행동 분출이라는 점에서 의미가 크다.
Dangun-nationalism means the consciousness and movements which persued the Korean’s national integration upon the belief that Dangun(檀君) was the Korean’s common ancestor. It contributed greatly to the glowth of Korean’s national consciousness, to the independence movement, and national unification movement. Daejonggyo(大倧敎) is one of the national religions which was built up upon the Korean native cultural tradition. Daejonggyo is the religion which was molded in the tradition of Dangun-nationalism. It was the product of Dangun-nationalism through 5000 year’s Korean history and was one the modern Dangun-nationalism phenomena. Daejongkyo played a leading role in the popularization and activation of modern Dangun-nationalism. Dangun-nationalism was diffused and became the energy of national movement against Japan imperialism by Daejongkyo. Daejongkyo’s Dangun-nationalism is different from other Dangun-nationalism stream. Dangun-nationalism shows various features and this article will observe the characteristics of Daejonggyo’s Dangunnationalism. Daejonggyo especially when Japanese imperialism has important implications for the independence movement.
