Understanding on the Postmodernism in Theological Perspective Hur, Ho-Ik Professor Daejeon Theological Seminary & College Daejeon, Korea Postmodernism is an idea that has been extremely controversial and difficult to define among scholars because the term implies to many that the modern historical period has passed. Nevertheless, most agree that postmodern ideas have influenced not only philosophy, art, critical theory but christian theology. Scholars most commonly hold postmodernism to be a movement of ideas that has both replaced and extended modernism by countering and borrowing from a number of modernism's fundamental assumptions. Likewise, modernism is a movement of ideas that has both replaced and extended premodernism because Western civilization made a gradual transition from premodernity to modernity when scientific methods were developed. This study focuses on explaining the corelations of theses three kinds movement of world view, that is premodernism, modernism, and postmodernism. Most Korean christian are misunderstanding main idea of postmodernism as antichristian trend. But as theologian John Cobb dealt with this subject in theological perspectives with ultimateness and particularity of christian faith. He insists christianity as structure of being is mostly like to postmoderism.
