The main purpose of this article is to suggest some directions for the Korean Theology of the 21st century focusing on the relationship among Gospel, western theology and Korean theology after examining Korean theology which was developed in the 20 century. Regarding the distinctive aspect of Korean societies in the 21st century, one can say many aspects. In my view, a prominent aspect is that Korean society became a multicultural society caused by migrant workers and international marriage. Therefore, Korean theology should define the ethos of Korea from the perspective of hybridity. For some directions toward Korean theology in the 21st century, this article will examine three Korean theologies in the 20 century. The first theology is a conservative theology which was developed by Hyeongrong Park. In this theology, I will focus on an aspect which identifies Gospel with Western theology, and regards Korean culture as a conquering object. The second theology is the Pungryu Theology which was developed by Tongshik Ryu. In Pungrye Theology, I will focus on an aspect which identifies Gospel with Korean spirituality which is called as Pungryudo differentiating Gospel from western theology. The third theology is Minjung Theology which was developed by Namdong Seo. He believes that the tradition liberating Minjung can be found in the Bible, church history, and Korean history. Furthermore,he insists that the tradition of Christianity and that of Korean history are merged in the mission of Korean church in the 1970s. After analyzing the three Korean theologies in the 20 century, this article suggests that Korean theology should be formulated from the non-dualistic perspective toward the 21st century. In other words,Korean theology should presuppose the non-dualistic relationship between Gospel and Western theology, Korean culture and Western culture, and Gospel and Korean culture.
