본 연구는 남해안 어촌지역에서 사용하고 있는 어획물 관련 명칭에 대해 기술하는 데에 목적이 있다. 전남 해남군 송지면, 경남 남해군 삼동면, 경남 통영시 욕지도에서 사용하고 있는 어획물 명칭을 정리하고 이를 표준어와의 비교·대조 작업을 통해 어획물 명칭의 어휘 분화 양상을 살펴보았다. 표준어형에 대응되는 어획물 관련 어휘는 어촌지역에서는 다양한 방언형으로 나타나며, 또한 관련 하위 범주 어휘도 크기, 생김새, 색깔, 성, 어획 시기, 맛과 질, 습성, 서식지 등의 다양한 명명 기제를 통해 발달해 있다. 조사된 어휘 중에는 ≪표준국어대사전≫이나 <한민족언어정보화 방언검색프로그램>에 수록되지 않은 어형도 있었으며 19세기 어류 총서인 정약전의 ≪자산어보≫(1814년)에서 그 흔적을 찾아볼 수 있는 어형도 있었다. 이처럼 어촌지역에서 사용하고 있는 생활 어휘의 어휘 목록체계화 작업은 우리말의 어휘장을 풍부하게 해주는 기초 작업이 될 것이다.
This study aims to describe names related to the catch of fish, which are used in fishing villages of the southern coast of Korea. Vocabulary differentiation features of the catch of fish were examined through organizing names of the catch of fish used in Jeollanam-do Haenam-gun Songji-myun, Gyeongnam Namhae-gun Samdong-myun, and Gyeongnam Tongyeong-si Yokjido and comparing and contrasting them with the standard language. Words related to the catch of fish corresponding to the forms of the standard language appear in diverse dialects in fishing villages, and in addition relevant subcategory words are also developed through various naming mechanisms including sizes, color, looks, sex, catching periods, tastes and quality, habits etc. Among words investigated, there were word forms which are not contained in ≪Korean Standard Dictionary≫ or <Korean people language information dialect search tool> and there were also word forms which are not found in Jeong Yak Jeon's ≪Jasaneobo≫(1814) which is a series of books of fish in the 19th century. As mentioned above, the systematization work of the list of words in daily life, which are being used in fishing villages will be a basic work to make the lexical scope of Korean language rich.
