The objective of this research is to inquire the reason of the rise and decline of the 1907 revival in Pyongyang on the basis of Sociological perspective, especially Max Weber's theory of charisma. This study reveals that the revival movement was possible because of the presence of charismatic leadership. Two leading staffs of the movement are regarded as individuals with charisma. Due to this exceptional quality, they were considered extraordinary, supernatural, and superhuman to the ordinary people as Weber described in his work, and, with this peculiar kind of quality, could give rise to the religious revival. However, since the movement had its origin in the leadership, it's future could not be free from the fate of the leadership. When the charisma of the leaders waned due to the their non-supernatural quality that emerged in the course of the movement, the revival started the decline. This again affirms Weber's claim that charisma is unstable, temporary, and foreign to everyday routine life and thus cannot prolong its existence unless it becomes routinized.
