한국사회가 21세기에 진입한 지도 10년이 넘었지만, 아직도 박 정희 신화는 계속되고 있다. 그의 18년간의 집권은 빛과 그림자로 극명하게 나누어진다고 본다. 근대화의 아버지로 추앙되었던 동시에, 독재자로 비난 받아 온 것이다. 그러나 대통령 직선제가 실현되어 민주화가 이룩된 이후에는 박 정희의 허물은 급속히 잊혀지고, 근대화의 공적은 한국사회에 확고하게 뿌리 내리게 되었다. 박 정희 사후, 이룩된 한국의 민주화는 그의 독재정치를 망각하게 하였고, 산업화의 공적만 강하게 기억하게 하는 결과를 낳았다. 오늘날 박 정희에 대한 평가는 긍정적인 면에 치우치고 있다고 본다. 다시 말해서, 박 정희에 대한 평가는 객관성을 상실하는 우를 범하고 있다고 보겠다. 이는 그의 독재정치와 경제성장 정책을 분리하여 조망한 결과라고 본다. 그러나 박정희의 독재정치와 경제 성장 드라이브는 명학하게 분리할 수 있는 것이 아니다. 박 정희의 정치와 산업정책을 분리하여 평가를 한다면, 그는 정치적으로는 비난을 받을 수 있지만 경제 영역은 높은 점수를 받게 된다. 즉, 그가 이룩하였던 세계 역사상 전례 없었던 초고속 성장은 그의 독재체제와 철저히 분리 되어서 긍정적 평가를 받는 것이다. 이렇게 정치와 경제를 단순하게 분리하여 보는 것은 지극히 순진한 것이 아닌 가 한다. 이 두 영역은 복합적으로 연결되어 있으며,유기적 관계를 유지하고 있다고 본다. 그래서 이들을 정치경제로 통합하여 분석하는 것이 보다 현실적이라고 볼 수 있다.
The Myth of Park Chung Hee has been prevalent up to present. His regime which lasted for 18 years has a double edged-sword that had a bright and dark side. He has been respected as a Father of modernization of Korea and criticized as a dictator. However, his achievement in terms of industrialization has been fully appreciated in Korea since its democratization while his fault has been forgotten easily. In fact, Korea’s President system has been firmly established for more than 20 years. As a consequence, Korea came to achieve both democratization and industrialization successfully. Korea is the first country that realized the two goals at the same time in the world history. President Park was believed to be responsible for Korea’s successful industrialization. It appears that the evaluation of Park Chung Hee has been distorted because he has been remembered by positive side only. In other words, his reputation has been formed with no balance. Therefore, the perception of Park Chung Hee in Korea has no objectivity at all. It might happen because the economic policies under the Park’s regime have been thought to be separated from the politics. Yet, both the two entities such as politics and economics can not be, in nature, clearly separated. If economic policies can be separated from politics successfully, his performance regarding industrialization could be evaluated positively although his authoritarian rule might be blamed seriously. In fact, Park Chung Hee came to be evaluated positively since the two entities have been recognized separately. It is not possible that politics and economics are clearly separated. The two entities are interrelated organically. It is more realistic that both politics and economics are to be analyzed on a holistic basis because they are integrated perse.
