As for the characteristics of narration, this article pays attention to structural aspect which prose and verse are weaved to construct a text. The type of the mixed pattern of prose and verse in narration can be classified into several categories: preface-added type(序附加型), poem-inserted type(詩揷入型), the type of essays on poetry(詩話型), the type of biographies(列傳型), the type of explanatory notes(주석형), and complex type(복합형). It is observed in generic facet and in the verse's relation to prose that the biography type is differentiated from other five types. In terms of genre, prose part is built around a person's biography, to the extent that it can be categorized as narrative mode on the one hand, but given that, from the first, this book was designed to give populace lessons of filial piety, loyalty, and faithfulness, prose part also takes a character of thematic mode on the other. As for the verse part, unlike the poems in the five types which assume lyric, those in this type come close to thematic poetry characterized by giving lessons, educating people, and aiming at conveying truth and Confucius morals. Meanwhile viewed from the relation of prose and verse, the type of biographies differs from other 5 cases in that verse part-two hepta-syllabic quatrains-recapitulate the contents of the prose, thereby assuming a duplicated narration and empathizing the Confucius morals: filial piety, loyalty, and faithfulness. The first example of the type of biographies is the Yolnyujeon by Yu Hyang in the Han period. Apart from the first case of this type, this article presented “series of biographies”(列傳) of the Sagi by Sama Cheon as the origin of the prose part of this type, and “nan”(亂), ending songs of Han fu (漢賦) as that of the verse part.
