이 글은 21세기가 시작된 이래 중국 학계가 전통시대 중국 중심 세계질서를 어떻게 연구하여 왔는지 그 궤적을 찾아보고, 어떻게 중국의 현실과 미래에 적용하고자 노력하고 있는지 살펴보고, 이와 별도로 독립적으로 진행된 이춘식 교수의 연구 성과인 『중국패권의 뿌리와 이념』(2014)이 중국 학계 연구 추세에서 차지하는 위상과 그 내용을 분석한 것이다. 이러한 분석을 통해 중국 역사학계는 제도나 체계 등 질서의 하드웨어 방면의 연구에 치중했고, 이를 바탕으로 연구를 진행한 중국 정치학계는 이를 이론화하는 동시에 이 제도나 체계를 움직이는 구체적인 원리를 구명하려 하고 있음을 확인했다. 그리고 이춘식 교수의 저서는 제목을 보면 사회과학적 이론화를 시도하는 듯 보였지만, 내용은 그의 전공인 사학계의 범위를 넘지 않은 것으로 평가된다.
The present study examined the path of how Chinese academics have been studying the Chinese world order in the traditional period since the beginning of the 21st century and how they are attempting to apply it to China’s present and future. In addition, it analyzed the status and contents of The Roots and Nature of Chinese Hegemony in the Former Han Times(2014), which is a study of the academic research trends in China conducted independently by Professor Choon S. Lee, in terms of Chinese academic research trends. Through this analysis, the present study confirmed that Chinese history academics focused on structural aspects in their study of the Chinese world order, such as institutions and systems, and that the Chinese academic circle of politics, which carried out a study based on this, attempted to theorize about the order and, at the same time, identify a specific principle which affects the institution or the system. Moreover, given the title of the book by Professor Choon S. Lee, it seems that the book attempted to theorize socio-scientifically, whereas it is classified as a work of historical research, which is the professor’s major field of study.
