본 논문은 다문화, 초문화 그리고 상호문화 구상을 탈문화(분리 및 파괴)와 문화접변(동화 및 흡수)의 역사를 종식시키기 위한 사회통합 구상으로 간주하고 그 차이점을 밝혀내고자 한다. 이때 ‘multi’라는 접두어는 여러(multi) 문화들의 병존을 강조하고, ‘inter’라는 접두어는 그들 사이(inter)의 만남을 가리키고, ‘trans’라는 접두어는 침투(trans)와 역동성의 구상을 가리킨다고 이해된다. 본 논문은 이러한 접두어들의 의미상 차이점에만 주목하지 않고, 이러한 구상들이 서로 다른 역사적, 사회적 맥락에서 탄생하였음을 지적한다. 나아가 이러한 구상에는 서로 다른 문화 이해가 깔려 있으며 나아가 이를 둘러싼 논의는 미래 사회의 방향과 관련된 논의라는 점을 드러내고자 한다.
This paper discusses the concept of multi-, trans-, and inter-culture as a strategy for the social integration which aims to end the history of deculturation (separation and destruction) and acculturation (assimilation and absorption). The first purpose of this study is to find out the differences between them. The prefix “multi-” emphasizes the coexistence of various cultures, “trans-” the concept of penetration and dynamics, and “inter-” the meeting of cultures. This study does not confine itself to make the difference clear, but also tries to certify that the discuss on these concepts is the one on social integration relating to the future by pointing out that these originated in the different historical and social contexts.
