주지하다시피 기억문화와 기억의 사회문화적인 역할에 대한 학술적인 관심은 인문학 전반을 가로 지르며 지난 십수 년간 상당히 방대한 지적인 작업과 연구의 결과들을 축적해왔다. 역사학의 분야 외에도 집합기억과 대중기억 그리고 문화적인 기억의 위상과 역할을 다루는 혹은 전쟁과 상흔(trauma) 그리고 기억의 문제를 유기적으로 풀어내는 다수의 작업들이 대중예술과 문학, 사회학, 여성학, 문화콘텐츠학, 그리고 영상학 분야에서 등장하고 있다. 또한 기억을 통한 역사의 재현작업과 제도화된 역사에 도전하거나 이를 일부 해체하는 기억의 존재성과 역할은 영상과 문화산업을 통해서도 꾸준히 발현되어 왔다. 이에 비해서 언론학 일반 내의 기억연구와 기억과 역사 재현의 문제를 다루는 관심은 아직까지 매우 주변화되어 있고, 연구의 사례 역시 상대적으로 상당히 희소하다. 이 연구의 목적은 이러한 학제적으로 이루어지고 있는 기억연구를 언론학의 장에 소개하며, 나아가서 텔레비전 역사 다큐멘터리의 사례를 중심으로 기억연구(memory work)의 함의와 가치를 제시하고, 영상을 통한 역사적인 인물과 사건의 재현 과정을 기억의 정치학을 화두로 삼아 자세하게 논하고자 한다. 특히 순국 100주년을 맞아 방송이 제작한 안중근 의사 관련 다큐들에 대한 텍스트 분석과 비판을 매개로 기억과 기념의 사회문화적인 활용과 함의에 대한 논점들을 제공하고자 한다.
This article deals with the politics and poetics of memory. It is fair to argue that for recent decades, memory-related scholarly works have been galvanized across the humanities. For instance, historiography, oral and cultural history, literature, arts, sociology, women’s studies, and visual studies have adopted various types and forms of memory-related approaches, thereby generating a kind of boom in memory studies. In doing so, memory became powerful analytic construct and tool which partially challenges the established history as intellectual discipline and norm. By critically analyzing several television documentary texts on Ahn Jung Keun who is a national hero and historical icon, this study explores the implications of historical representation through documentary texts as well as some problems they embody. In doing so, this work calls for alternative approaches and historical imagination.
