이 논문은 20세기 초엽인 1902년에 지어진 이종응의 <셔유견문록>에 대한 고찰이다. 사행가사 가운데 한 작품인 <셔유견문록>은 현전 최초이자 유일의 세계 기행가사라는 문학사적 의미를 지닌다. 또한 18,19세기 사행가사의 특성을 변용, 수용함으로써 사행가사의 맥을 20세기까지 이어간다는 의미도 동시에 지닌다.작자 이종응은 1902년에 영국 에드워드 7세의 대관식에 조선 축하 사절단의 일원으로 참석하기 위해 영국에 가게 되었다. 목적지인 영국에 이르고 다시 조선으로 돌아오는 과정 동안 작자일행은 일본, 미국, 캐나다, 이탈리아, 인도 등, 십 여 개국의 나라를 여행하게 된다. <셔유견문록>은 이들 나라에서 경험하게 되는 이국적인 풍물 및 낯선 체험을 노래한 가사 작품이다.본고에서는 논의의 전개를 위하여 작품을 내용에 따라 서사본사결사로 나누었다. 내용을 추찰함에 있어서는 사행을 떠나는 작자의 심경을 살펴보고, 작자가 해외기행에서 경험한 선진 문물의 체험 및 문화적 충격에 대하여 논의하였다. 선진 문물의 체험과 문화적 충격은 선진화된 교통수단, 화려하고 경이로운 경물, 낯설고 이국적인 인물과 풍물로 구체화 된다. 작자는 서구의 선진 문화에 강한 호기심을 보이는데, 이는 궁극적으로 조선의 근대화의 열망으로까지 이어지게 된다. 본고에서는 이러한 점에 주목하여 고찰하였다.

This dissertation is the Lee, Jong-eung's(이종응) <Seoyukyonmunrok> (서유견문록). <Seoykyonmunrok> was the created in 1902. And, this work is the first and the only World-wide travel Kasa(세계기행가사), it keeps literature meaning. Also <Seoyukyonmunrok> was transfigured and accommodated the 18, 19th centuries official travel Kasa (사행가사), and it is until 20th century and goes also meaning keeps simultaneously Lee, Jong-eung at 1902, which the coronations of Edward Ⅶ in Great Britain attends with the member of the congratulation delegation. It reaches to Great Britain which is a destination again the writer company during the process which returns with the Chosun(조선) travels and Japan, the United States, Canada and Italy, the India etc, about ten countries. <Seoyukyonmunrok> was song, it is experienced from these countries are the natural features and strange experience It saw from, for the development of discussion it follows the work in contents, prologue(서사), the main subject(본사), an epilogue(결사). And, it leaves a traveled mind of the writer. Subsequently, it discussed was a culture shock of the advanced civilization which the writer experiences from the overseas travelogue. The experience and culture shock of advanced civilization, the mean of transportation which becomes advanced anger, are gorgeous and the fortune scenery, it is strange with wondering and this nationality it is materialized with the people and the natural features. The writer the place where it is visible a strong curiosity in advanced culture of the West Europe, it is joined together ultimately with until ardent wish of modernization of the Chosun.
