<혼불>의 風水信仰은 자신의 운명을 개척하려는 두 계층의 인물을통하여 二元的 樣相으로 나타난다. 이들은 전해오는 明堂 관념에 대한신뢰감을 갖고 삶의 문제를 풍수에 의지하여 극복하고자 한다. 그런데이들 풍수신앙의 표출양상은 전혀 다르다. 청암부인이 裨補風水 관념으로 저수지 공사를 행하여 경제적 풍요를 실현하였다면, 만동부부는 투장행위로 후손의 身分變化를 시도한다. 저수지 공사 과정에서 드러난 조개바위는 信仰의 대상이 되어 비보풍수의 의미를 배가시키지만, 극심한 가뭄으로 뭍에 그 形體가 드러나면서 청암부인의 죽음이 이어진다는 면에서 이들의 운명과 깊이 연관된다. 한편, 양반사회에 편입되어 신분변화를 시도한 투장행위가 궁극적으로는 유교 질서를 무너뜨린다는 逆說的 의미를 보인다. 이는 개인적 차원의 신앙이 <혼불> 인물들로 하여금 평등의식을 공유하게 하는 사회적 인식 차원으로 확산되는 계기가 된다. 이 연구는 두 계층 인물들의 비보풍수와 투장행위가 작품에서 이원적 양상으로 전개된다는 것과 작품 전체 서사와도 有機的으로 연관되는 것을 확인하였다.
The fengshui religion, which is described in the novel <Honbul>,expressed as dualistic aspect through the two characters improving their own lots. They would try to overcome life's problems having faith on concept of ideal spot which is being told through centuries and counting on fengshui religion. However, the aspect of expression of such feng-shui religion is dissimilar. Madame Chungam realized financial richness by building reservoir and trying ideal spot making based on the aspect of complementary setup fengshui, but the couple Mandongs tried ideal spot sharing by in order to change social status of descendents with heroic combatant fengshui. The calm rock, which comes out as a target of religious belief during construction of reservoir, doubles the meaning of the thesis of fengshui. But it is deeply related to the fate that Madame Chungam's death is going to shortly happen as the severe drought has been experienced. In the meantime, it turns out that the heroic combatant behavior eventually happens to spread the campaign namely that changing social status by transferring to the Noble Society(called Yangban Sahwoe) was actually to paradoxically mean that resulting in spreading the common idea that Charactors from <Honbul> share social consciousness of equalization,that personal religious belief demolishes confucian order in the society. This thesis contributes to checking on the novel <Honbul> how the complementary setup fengshui and heroic combatant behavior between two social classes tell about dualistic aspect lied before and how two elements describe tension of narrative and are organically in connection with the narrative in whole.
