Developing History Writing with Narrative Mode Lee, Young Hyo Chonnam National University The revival of narrative is one of main trends in recent historiography. With a loss of faith in ‘scientific history’, ‘history as a narrative’ revived. But ‘new’ narratives are not simply mythic stories about heroes and their victories with good or evil plot line. They are founded on narrative theory which endorses relativism of knowledge, historical text as discourse, and deconstructive reading and writing. Narrative as a historical writing mode is an alternative to expository text. Historical text with narrative mode becomes rather an object of understanding, interpretation, judgment, and providing meanings, not an object of concepts, generalization, theory, and explanation. This coincides with a transfer of center in history discipline from ‘structure' to ‘human.'
