본 연구의 목적은 노인 자원봉사자들이 제공받은 인정과 보상에 대한 경험과 인식을 탐색하는 데 있다. 본 연구는 질적 연구방법론을 채택해서 서울 소재 노인복지관에서 각각 활동하는 자원봉사자 12명과의 일대일 심층 대면 인터뷰를 실시했다. 본 연구결과에 따르면, 인터뷰에 참가한 대다수의 노인 자원봉사자는 현재의 인정과 보상이 실질적인 도움이 되지 않는다며 부정적인 평가를 내렸다. 이들은 노인일자리 수준의 현금 지급, 식사비와 교통비의 지급, 연말정산 혜택 등의 경제적인 혜택을 원하고 있었다. 이는 노인 자원봉사자들이 비경제적인 인정과 보상만으로는 만족하지 않고 경제적인 보상을 원하면서 자원봉사의 핵심가치인 무보수성과 순수성이 현장에서 상당히 균열되고 있음을 시사한다. 노인 일자리 사업이나 공공이나 민간의 실비나 활동비 지급 프로그램의 확대 등이 그 영향을 끼치는 것으로 분석됐다. 아울러, 현재의 인정과 보상은 노인의 욕구를 충분히 고려해서 적절히 제공되지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 이같은 문제를 개선하기 위해 자원봉사의 인정과 보상에 대한 전반적인 현장 실태 점검과 자원봉사의 무보수성과 순수성을 회복시킬 수 있는 근본적인 개선 노력이 필요할 것이다.
The aim of this study is to explore the elderly volunteers’ experiences and their appraisal of ‘recognition and reward’ provided to them. Adopting qualitative research methods, 12 elderly volunteers were selected from several senior centers located in Seoul, and in-depth interviews were conducted. According to the findings of this study, most of the elderly volunteers participated in this study negatively appraised the current ‘recognition and reward’ and they need a number of economic rewards such as reimbursement of expenses, stipends and tax return. This finding indicates that the core value of volunteering(the value of no payment) is seriously infringed in practical arena, and this appears to be the result from the expansion of the government-led programs such as ‘elderly job program’ or ‘cash-paid volunteering programs’. To tackle the challenges, the systematic examination of the volunteering practice should be conducted and a number of active efforts should be made.
