본 논문의 목적은 현재의 동북아 안보환경에서 스텔스 전투기의 전략적 유용성과 주변국들의 스텔스 전투기 개발현황에 대하여 분석하고 한국 공군에게 주는 함의를 도출하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 증대되는 상호의존에도 불구하고 여전히 생존 이익(Survival Interest)과 사활적 이익(Vital Interest)이 우선시되는 동북아 안보상황에서 중･일의 스텔스 전투기 개발과 운용현황에 대해 분석하며,이러한 분석을 토대로 한국 공군의 스텔스 전투기 운용 개념 및 지향해야 할발전방향에 대해 모색하였다.
Regional powers in Northeast Asia are developing and deploying stealth fighters inthe context of intensifying military competition and growing tensions over territorialdisputes. This paper examines the strategic utilities of stealth fighters in the regionalsecurity environment as well as in response to North Korea’s nuclear and missilethreats from a South Korean perspective. Then, we analyze current status and implicationsof stealth-fighter programs of China and Japan. Finally, this paper concludeswith some suggestions regarding policy implication for ROK Air Force's stealthfighters and future directions.
