유교를 이념으로 하는 가부장적 사회에서 여성에게 가해진 불평등은 크게 여성이 교육받을 권리를 박탈하고 공적 영역에의 진입을 거부한 것에서 파생된 것이다. 따라서 여성은 자신의 삶을주체적으로 설계할 수 없었고, 사회적 인간으로 남성과 더불어 살아갈 수 없었다. 여성들은 남성들의 교화의 대상이었고, 남성들에게 순종해야 하는 수동적 존재였을 뿐이다. 유순하고 순종적인여성상이 규범적 여성상으로 정립되어 확대 재생산되던 시대에 윤지당은 자신이 평생 탐구했던성리학적 논리를 빌려 여성도 남성과 다름없는 천품을 타고난 존재임을 선언하였다. 윤지당은 성리학의 논리를 가지고 여성의 교육받을 권리를 주장하고, 정치적 영역까지 관심사를 넓혔다. 남성을 돕고 보완하는 여성으로 살아갈 것을 강요하던 시대에 여성도 남성처럼 학문을 통해 성인이될 수 있다고 주장하고 여성이 자신의 삶의 주체임을 천명하였다. 또한 자신의 저서를 통해 자신의 생각을 후세에까지 전승하여 주체적 삶에 대한 여성의 자각이 일회성에 끝나지 않고 재생산될 수 있도록 한 것은 매우 의미 있는 것으로 평가되어야 할 것이다.

Yim mainly insisted that women should be able to receive equal education to men and also broadened her study fields to a political sphere by claiming the philosophy of human nature and humanlaws. One more claim that Yim declared was that women themselves were able to establish their independent subjecthood and could be a sage through studying and researching hard on specific subjects they were interested in, even though the society extorted women from living only as helpful people for men's lives. By her books Yim tried to transmit her scholastic philosophy from generation to generation and to reproduce the continuous self-consciousness about the subjective lives of women. This fact should be evaluated considerably meaningfully.
