본 연구는 수평적 결합이 개별 SO의 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 기존의 연구들이 서로 엇갈린 결과를 내놓고 있는 것에 주목해 연결망 연구(Network Analysis)라는 새로운 접근 방법을 사용하여 엇갈린 연구 결과들에 대한 정확한 이해를 목적으로 진행되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 주식지분관계의 연결망으로부터 관계적 속성(연결망 변인)을 이끌어내어 기존의 성과변인을 특성변인과 행위변인으로 구성하여 상관분석과 다중회귀분석을 통해 수평적 결합이 개별 SO의 경영성과에 미치는 실질적 영향력을 검증하고자 하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 케이블 SO들의 지분연결망은 배타적이고 약한 연결망(weak tie)의 특징을 지닌다. 둘째, 지분출자가 영업행위와 관련된 자원과 정보의 효율적인 통제에는 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 그러나 수평적 결합이 비용(지출)이 포함된 가구당 매출액과 같은 외형적 성과에는 효과가 있다고 볼 수 있다. 넷째, 전체적으로 내향중심성은 행위변인과, 외향중심성은 속성변인과 상관관계가 높고 구속성은 비용과 상관관계가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 수평적 결합이 매출액에는 긍정적 영향을 미치지만, 영업이익과 당기순익을 높이는 데에는 오히려 부정적 영향을 나타냈다는 점에서 현시점에서 수평적 결합은 자원과 정보의 효율적 활용을 통한 경영성과의 증대에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 보기 어렵다.
This study is for reexamination of economic performance of cable service operators since previous researches has presented inconsistent results. Thus, the study constructed relational traits(network variables) from stock relationship network of cable service operators. Also, traditional performance variables are constructed with trait variables and conduct variable and correlational analysis and multi-regression was conducted to prove actual effect of horizontal association among cable service operators. As a result, first, stock relationship network of cable service operator is exclusive and weak tie. Second, investing in other cable service operators does not guarantee effective control of resources and information related to sales. Third, but, horizontal association is effective on external performance such as the sales per household. Fourth, in- closeness centrality and out-closeness centrality has high correlation with conduct variables and trait variables relatively. Also, constraint is correlated with the cost. In summary, even though horizontal association has positive effect on the sales, it has rather negative effects on increasing sales profit and the net income. This result suggests that horizontal association known to be effective for efficient utilization of resources and informations would not be the best choice for cable service operators to increase economic performance.
