It has been widely recognized that teacher education is at the heart of educational reform. The rationale for emphasis on in-service English teacher training is the assumption that the teacher plays a key role in bringing about changes in the classroom. Based on recent developments in the literature on English teaching and teacher training, this study aims to develop an online in-service English teacher training program-(IETTP). The main goals are to enhance trainees’ communicative skills in English and to improve their teaching skills. The selected trainees’ needs are analyzed and incorporated in the designing the course syllabuses to meet their specific needs. Learning management system-(LMS) is developed to provide the trainees with academic support. Decisions on the trainees’ achievements are made on the basis of both quantitative and qualitative data gathered from the on-going assessment performed during the course. Program evaluations at the levels of trainees’ satisfaction and the content of the course are conducted to identify areas of improvement. Some suggestions are made for further research in developing online English teacher training programs that ultimately help trainees improve their teaching.
