본 연구조사에서는 지난 10여 년간 품질혁신활동을 통해 국가 품질상을 수상한 52개 기업을 대상으로 재무성과를 비교 분석 하여, 국가품질상의 수상이 기업의 재무성과에 미치는 효과를 분석해 보았다. 비교 분석의 대상으로는 국가 품질상 수상기업과 업종이 동일하고 기업의 규모가 유사한 52개의 비교기업과 국가품질상을 수상한 기업 간에 비교가 가능한 객관적 재무지표를 정량적으로 분석해 봄으로써 국가품질상 수상기업의 성공적인 품질경영활동 수행이 재무성과에 미치는 효과를 분석한다.국가품질상 수상 기업과 비교기업 간의 재무성과 차이를 분석하기에 앞서 먼저 품질과 유의한 관계를 가지는 재무지표들을 통계적으로 추출하기 위해 시도한 2002년 이후 국가품질상 (종합상) 수상기업의 국가품질상 평가 총점과 재무지표 간 상관분석 결과, 총 85개 셀에서 국가품질상 평가 총점과 재무지표 간 유의한 상관관계가 발견되었으며, 그 85개 셀을 중심으로 수상기업과 비교기업의 재무지표 차이를 독립표본 t-검정으로 분석해 보았다. 6가지 재무성과 비율지표(안정성, 활동성, 수익성, 생산성, 성장성, 시장가치)를 기준으로 한 수상기업과 비교기업의 차이분석 결과를 통해 본 연구는 품질경영 활동의 성공적 수행이 재무성과에 미치는 효과를 파악했다. 구체적으로 국가품질상 평가 총점과 재무지표 간 유의한 상관관계가 발견된 85개 셀 중 73개 셀(85.9%)에서 품질상 수상기업이 비교기업 보다 우월한 재무성과를 보이며 그 차이가 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 나머지 12개 셀 중 9개 셀에서 통계적으로 유의하지는 않지만 수상기업이 비교기업보다 높은 재무성과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 국가품질상 세부 평가항목과 재무지표 간 상관관계 분석결과는 단순히 국가품질상 세부평가 항목들의 타당성을 검증하는 차원을 넘어, 품질활동과 재무성과와의 관련성을 기초로 각 세부 성과평가항목들의 가중치 배점 조정의 근거자료로 활용할 수 있다는 점에서 상당한 실무적 의의가 있다고 판단된다.

This study analyzed the relationship between the successful implementation of quality management activity and financial performance by investigating comparatively the financial performances of 52 firms which have achieved National Quality Award during last 10 years. For this, this paper first implemented correlation analysis between the total evaluation points of 52 NQA winners and 34 indices in 6 financial performance areas in order to extract statistically financial indices which have significant correlation with quality improvement. And then, differences in financial performances between 52 winners and 52 non-winners of NQA were investigated by independent T-test.As a result, this paper finds that in 73 cells (85.9%) among the 85 cells of financial indices which have significant correlation with total NQA evaluation points, NQA winners are statistically superior to non-NQA winners. This means that the successful implementation of quality management activity may have significant influence on financial performance, thus identifying the value of continuous effort for quality improvement.
