본 연구는 초등학교 교사가 갖추어야 할 핵심역량이 무엇인지를 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 초등교사의 전문성 및 핵심역량과 관련된 국내외 문헌들을 고찰하여 개념적 틀을 도출한 후, 현장교사들 및 전문가들의 의견을 수렴․반영하여 초등교사의 역할별 역량을 분석하였다. 이를 기초로 초등학교 교사에게 설문조사를 실시하여 초등교사의 역량 목록을 도출하고, 전문가 협의회를 통해 최종적으로 초등학교 교사의 핵심역량을 규명하였다. 연구 결과, 초등교사의 가야 할 방향인 비전을 ‘능동적 전문성’으로 설정하고 이를 달성하기 위해 필요한 역량들을 추출하였다. 역량을 규명하기 위해 초등교사의 주요 역할을 교수, 평가, 생활지도, 학급경영, 전문성개발로 구분하고 이를 성공적으로 수행하기 위해 필요한 지식, 수행, 태도 관련 역량들을 추출하였다. 본 연구 결과에 근거하여 교사 임용 선발 시험과 예비교사 및 현직교사 교육에의 시사점을 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate and clarify elementary teachers' core competencies. For this study, we first reviewed other research literatures on elementary teachers' professionalism/core competencies, proposed the conceptual frameworks, and extracted major competencies related teachers' particular roles, based on our analysis of the survey results, acquired from elementary teachers and experts in this area. Further, we made a list of sub-competencies of elementary teachers through the survey results and finally clarified elementary teachers' core competencies through the double-checking process by experts' comments and opinions on the results. The results include that the major core competencies were analyzed into 'instructional competency', 'evaluation competency', 'counselling competency', 'classroom management competency', and 'professional development competency'. Ultimately, we grouped these competencies by knowledge, practice, and attitude, and finally confirmed a final list of elementary teachers' core competencies, based on our analysis of survey and experts' review comments. The implications on pre-service and in-service teacher education as well as national teacher employment test were also discussed.
