이 연구는 예수 그리스도의 삶과 가르침을 통해 교사의 인격적 권위를 고찰하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 교사가 학생에게 미치는 영향력의 성질은 권력이나 친분 관계가 아닌 권위에 속한다. 교사의 권위는 직위상의 권위와 지식의 권위 등이 있는데 이들보다 더욱 근본적이고 지속적인 영향력을 주는 것이 인격적 권위이다. 예수는 인류의 존경하는 스승으로 평가를 받고 성경에 당시의 교사들과 달리 권위가 있었다고 기록되어 있다. 예수의 삶과 가르침을 통하여 나타난 인격적 권위는 첫째, 권력, 친분 관계뿐만 아니라 직위상의 권위나 지식의 권위 등과 구별된다. 둘째, 인격적 권위는 가르치는 자와 배우는 자가 삶을 공유하고 공감함으로써 신뢰의 관계를 형성함으로써 발휘된다. 셋째, 인격적 권위는 가르침이 가르치는 자의 모든 삶과 일치되며 배우는 자를 아무런 조건 없이 온 몸과 마음을 다해 사랑하고 섬길 때 발휘된다. 넷째, 인격적 권위는 가르치는 자가 배우는 자의 의도, 성향, 배경 지식 등을 정확히 파악하고, 자신의 삶을 통해 예증되는 살아있는 지식과 논리를 통해 배우는 자를 개별적으로 인도할 때 발휘된다. 교사의 인격적 권위는 교육현실에서 교권실추와 학생의 도덕성 약화의 문제에 대한 근본적인 해결방향을 제시한다. 교사의 인격적 권위는 학생의 의지와 태도의 변화에 근본적으로 영향을 준다.
The purpose of this study is to discover the concept of personal authority of teacher through the life and teaching of Jesus Christ. The character of influence that teachers give to students belongs not to power or familiar relations but to authority. There are authority of position and of knowledge in authority of teacher, but personal authority of teacher has more fundamental and continuous impacts. Many people respect Jesus as a great teacher and it was recorded in the Bible he had a special authority different from other teachers. Personal authority of Jesus Christ is, first, different from authority of position or of knowledge as well as power and familiar relations. Personal authority does not depend on physical press or reward, and it has clear intention to change learners. It does not depend on formal position or specific facts or informations, but it influences learners through human relationships and the total situation of life. Personal authority is, second, built on the relation of trust through sharing and sympathizing of life between teachers and learners. Third, it is built on the consistency between teaching and the life of teacher, and it needs sincere love and service with all their hearts and bodies. When learners see these sincere behaviors, they develop sincere respects towards teachers. Forth, it is realized when teachers know intentions, personalities, and background knowledges of learners and lead them individually through real knowledge and logic manifested in the life of teacher. Personal authority of teacher presents a fundamental answer to problems of modern educational practices such as weakening of teachers' authority and of learners' morality. It influences fundamental changes of learners' wills and attitudes.
