본 연구에서는 A대학 신입생을 대상으로 실시한 사교육 조사 결과를 이용하여 대학 입시 전형 요소가 사교육에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 대학 입시 전형 요소로 논술이 사교육에 미치는 영향이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이는 논술이 다수의 대학에서 요구하는 전형 요소임에도 불구하고 고등학교에서의 체계적인 교육 방침이 없고, 대학에서도 이러한 고등학교의 상황을 고려하지 않은 채 주요 전형의 하나로 내세우고 있기 때문인 것으로 풀이된다. 사교육의 의존도를 낮추고 공교육 활성화를 통해 민주 시민 교육의 토대를 구축하기 위해서는 대학 입시 전형을 개선할 필요가 있는 것으로 보인다.
This paper investigates the effects of university admission process on private education using the survey data for the freshmen who got into a university located in the metropolitan area in 2011. We use a logit analysis to find that essay tests have the greatest effect on the students’ experiences on private education for the entrance examinations they prepared. We conjecture that the gap between the universities’ requirement and the students’ ability measured by the essay tests yields high demand for private education for the tests. This result raises the necessity to reform university admission process to make foundations of social studies education through lowering dependence on private education as well as cultivating school education.
