본 연구는 박물관을 활용한 초등학교 3학년 사회단원의 교육활동이 아동의 학업에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 ‘초등학교 3학년 교과과정 연계 박물관 교육프로그램’을 개발한 후, 개발된 프로그램을 초등학교 3학년 아동들에게 적용해보고 아동의 학습동기, 학습태도, 학업성취도에 효과가 있는지 확인하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 초등학교 1곳의 3학년 2학급의 아동 63명이었으며, 이들을 실험집단과 통제집단으로 나누어 실험연구를 실시했고 프로그램 개발, 예비검사, 사전검사, 실험처치, 사후검사의 순으로 진행되었다. 본 연구결과 첫째, 박물관을 활용한 사회단원의 교육활동이 초등학교 3학년 아동들의 학습동기 향상에 효과가 있었으며, 학습동기의 하위요인 중 주의집중, 자신감, 만족감 요인에서 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 박물관을 활용한 사회단원의 교육활동이 초등학교 3학년 아동들의 학습태도 향상과 학업성취도 향상에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

The present study investigated the effects of museum education on the academic performance of 3rd grade children. It examined processes of museum education program to determine its impact on children's academic performance such as learning motivation and attitude, academic achievement. Sixty-three 3rd graders from elementary school participated in 8 program sessions. All subjects received pre-, post tests. The results showed that the academic performances of 3rd grade children increased as a result of this program.
