스포츠는 현대사회에서 문화의 한 부분이 되고 있다. 사람들은 스포츠를 하나의 직업으로, 건강을 위한 하나의 방법으로, 또는 스포츠경기를`통하여 즐거움을 찾고 있다. 이렇게 스포츠는 오늘날 우리의 삶에 중요한 요소가 되고 있다. 그렇지만 스포츠가 긍정적인 면만 보여주는 것은 아니다. 스포츠계에서 수시로 터져나오는 폭행사건이나 비리사건은 스포츠가 우리 사회에 미치는 부정적인 모습이다. 특히 지난 동계올림픽 특정 종목에서 발생한 대표선수선발에서 담합을 통한 조작사건은 스포츠계가 보여주는 추악한 모습이다. 더구나 사건의 당사자들은 그동안 이런 일이 비일비재하여 새삼스러운 일이 아니라고 하였다. 이는 오늘날 우리 스포츠계가 안고 있는 심각한 문제라고 할 수 있다. 스포츠계의 비리사건이나 폭행사건 등과 같은 폐습은 어제오늘의 일은 아니다. 그렇지만 시대가 변하고 사회도 변화하고 있는데 유독 스포츠계에는 큰 변화가 없다. 비리나 폭행 등의 문제는 비단 스포츠계만 안고 있는 문제는 아니다. 그렇지만 페어플레이 등 스포츠정신이나 태도 등이 오랜 기간 사회에 미친 긍정적인 부분을 고려할 때, 우리 스포츠계가 안고 있는 문제는 심각하다. 더구나 더욱 심각한 것은 스포츠계 자체가 이런 문제에 대하여 단지 내부적 문제로 치부하여 미봉책으로 해결하려는 것이다. 나아가 비리나 폭행 등이 반사회적인 범죄행위라는 인식을 그리 하지 못하고 있다는 것도 스포츠계의 문제이다. 스포츠계에서 발생하는 비리나 폭행 등은 반사회적이고 반인륜적인 것이다. 반복되는 문제를 해결하기 위하여 우선 먼저 해야 할 과제는 스포츠정산을 되살려 스포츠계 자체의 윤리의식의 제고이다. 어떤 문제이든 스스로 해결하겠다는 의지가 없다면 어떤 방법도 무용지물이다. 그 다음 해야 할 것은 스포츠에서의 비리나 폭행과 같은 문제가 발생하지 않도록 법과 제도를 개선해야 한다. 또한 사건이 발생하면 과거처럼 적당히 처리할 것이 아니라 철저하게 진상을 찾아서 발본색원해야 할 것이다. 아무튼 스포츠윤리의 확립을 위하여 스포츠윤리위원회의 설치, 스포츠윤리헌장의 제정 등 다각도의 노력을 기울여야 한다.
In modern society, sports has become a part of culture. It has become an integral factor in people's lives. People find pleasure in sports as their vocation, as a means for health or as sports games. However, sports does not have only bright sides. Occasional violence accident and corruptions are the negative pictures that sports presents to our society. Especially the manipulative selection process of a national team in certain events which happened at the last Winter Sports Olympics is deemed an ugly truth of the sports world. The more serious fact is that these people who took part in the manipulative selection process showed a numb attitude, stating that the manipulation part has been a custom. These are the problems of our sports society. As a matter of fact, corruption and violence in the sports domain have a long history. Despite changes in our society, the sports domain does not seem to join the current. Although corruption and violence are not a particular issue in the sports area, considering the positive effects that sports spirits such as playing fair games, the issue should not be underestimated. The current attitude of the sports area to merely apply half-measures to the problems and its unawareness that corruption and violence is an antisocial crime are even more serious. The crimes being committed in the sports domain are antisocial and immoral. In order to solve the recurrent problems, the sports world need to reflect on true sports spirit and overhaul their ethical conscience. A lack of will to solve the problem by their own would lead to nowhere. Moreover, one should find the fundamental cause of the problem if a case occurs and thoroughly remove it. A multi-dimensional effort such as founding Sports Ethics Committee, enacting Sports Ethics Charter is required for the establishment of sports ethics.
