본 연구에서는 특수교육전공자들을 대상으로 지적장애아동의 의사소통발달을 위한 자원봉사자 교육을 제공하였을 때 자원봉사자들의 의사소통기술발달과 특수교육전공 자원봉사자들의 현장 적용에 있어서의 어려움, 그리고 그들이 느끼는 효과를 살펴보아 지적장애학생의 자원봉사자 교육에 대한 지원의 방법을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 충청북도에 소재한 K대학 특수교육전공자인 총 4명의 연구참여자에게 지적장애 학생의 의사소통 능력 발달을 위한 자원봉사자 교육을 단기적으로 실시한 연구결과, 연구참여자들은 사전보다 사후에 의사소통기술의 사용이 증가되었다. 그리고 연구참여자들의 면담을 통하여 나타난 포커스집단에서 3개의 주제와 9개의 소주제가 도출되었다. 3개의 주제는 자원봉사자의 교육 실시에 있어서의 어려움, 자원봉사자의 교육실시에 있어서의 효과, 자원봉사자의 교육 중재 방법의 중요성으로 요약되었다. 이 연구결과에서 자원봉사자 교육은 연구참여자들의 의사소통지도기술이 향상되었고, 자원봉사자들의 성취감, 지도기술의 습득, 만족감, 등의 변화뿐 만 아니라 지도 학생의 발달을 느꼈으며, 이로써 자원봉사자로써의 태도가 중요함도 함께 느꼈다고 하였다. 그러므로 이는 지적장애 학생을 위한 자원봉사자가 적절한 효과를 가지기 위해서는 단순한 지원을 위한 자원봉사보다 자원봉사의 내실을 기하기 위하여 자원봉사자 교육의 필요성을 시사하는 연구결과이다.
This study was to find a way to support volunteer education for children with intellectual disabilities via exploring the effects and difficulties of the on-site application and practice of the education program which is designed to educate special education major volunteers about developing communication skills of children with intellectual disabilities. To conduct the study, 4 subjects who are special education major students in K university located in Chungcheongbuk-do of South Korea participated in short-term volunteer education program which was designed to develop the communication skills of children with intellectual disabilities. As a result, the subjects showed improved communication skills after the program. Also, the study could draw three main subjects and nine subsidiary subjects from the focus group interview. The three main subjects were as follows: The difficulties of on-site application and practice of volunteer education program; The effects of the education program; the importance of volunteers' mediation methodology for the education program. As a result, subject's communication skills with the student's were improved, and they experienced not only a sense of accomplishment, pride, skill acquisition, and satisfaction but also the development of target student's while volunteering. For the more, subjects also stated that they could recognize the importance of volunteers’ attitude during the volunteering experience after the program. Hence, this study emphasizes the necessity of volunteer education program to ensure substantiality of volunteering for children with intellectual disability, not just mear helping purpose of volunteering.
