「비오는 길」은 근대 자본주의 사회를 살아가는 근대인들의 욕망의 간접화 현상에 대한 고발과 그 자각을 가장 선명하게 보여주는 작품이다. 본고에서는 먼저 근대 자본주의 사회의 욕망의 성격에 대해 고찰하고, 중개자의 욕망이 주인공에게 간접화되는 양상에 대해 살펴보았다. 주인공 병일은 사진관 주인인 욕망의 중개자 이칠성을 만나면서 욕망의 간접화를 경험하게 된다. 그래서 정신 지향과 물질 지향 사이에서 가치관에 혼란을 경험한다. 하지만 병일에게는 자신의 가치에 대한 믿음이 남아 있다. 따라서 이칠성과의 만남을 멈춘다. 이 무렵 작가는 이칠성을 갑작스럽게 죽게 만듦으로써 더 큰 문제를 제기한다. 작가는 욕망의 삼각구도에서 병일이가 패배하게 두지 않고, 오히려 타락한 욕망을 지닌 이칠성을 죽이는 쪽으로 귀결시켰다. 그렇게 함으로써 근대 자본주의 사회에서의 욕망에 대한 근본적인 물음을 제기한 것이다. 그리고 이를 통해 근대인이 지닌 욕망의 허구성을 고발하고, 소설적 진실을 추구하고자 하였다.
The Raining Road is the work that shows most saliently the accusation and awareness as to the phenomena of indirection tendency by the desires of modern people who are living the modern capitalistic society. First, this study reviewed the nature of the desires of the modern capitalistic society, and then examined the aspect of which the indirection tendency of the desires of the intermediary was reflected on the protagonist. Byung-Il, the protagonist, happend to experience the indirection tendency of a desire through meeting Chil-Sung Lee, who is the intermediary of a desire and also the owner of a photo studio. However, Byung-Il still had his belief in his own values. Thus, he stopped meeting Chil-Sung Lee. At this point, the author suggested the bigger problem by making Chil-Sung Lee pass away suddenly. The author did not let Byung-Il lose in the triangle relationship of the desire; rather, concluded the novel as killing Chil-Sung Lee who had the corrupted desire. By doing so, the author presented the fundamental question as to the desired of the modern capitalistic society. And through this, the author aimed to accuse the fictionality of the desires of modern people and pursue the novelistic veracity.
