이 논문은 최하림 후기시에 나타난 풍경의 양상과 풍경에 내포된 현실인식의 특성을 살펴본 것이다. 최하림 후기시에서 풍경의 시학을 발견하는 논의는 이루어져 왔으나 풍경의 구성이나 양상, 풍경의 내용 등에 대한 구체적 논의는 이루어지지 않았다. 따라서 본 논문은 미학적 성취도가 높은 후기시의 풍경에 대한 연구가 진전되어야 할 필요성에서 출발한다. 최하림 후기시 풍경을 재현하는 중요한 요소는 시적 자아의 시선이다. 후기시의 풍경을 이루는 시적 자아의 시선은 세계를 전유하려는 시선과 풍경의 한 부분이 되고자하는 시선이 혼재되어 나타난다. 이러한 시선을 바탕으로 후기시 풍경은 고요, 기억, 시간이라는 양상으로 분류된다. ‘고요의 풍경’에서는 사물을 고요하게 보기 위한 과정으로서의 사유 특성을 보여준다. ‘기억의 풍경’은 기억의 시간이 현재를 통과하며 풍경을 이룬다. 시적 자아의 현실인식은 역사적 체험에서 기인하며 과거의 기억이 내면화된 특성을 보인다. ‘시간의 풍경’은 현상세계를 존재론적인 성찰로 이끄는 풍경을 이룬다. 시적 자아는 지상의 한 순간에 대해 성찰하고 풍경의 시간은 무한 공간을 배경으로 흘러간다. 본 논고는 최하림의 시가 초기의 역사성을 벗어나지 않고 후기시에도 내면화된 역사적 현실인식의 특성을 보여준다는 관점 하에 풍경의 양상에 따른 현실인식의 특성을 살펴보았다. 평생의 시력에 걸쳐 일관된 역사의식을 보이면서도 존재론적이며 서정성을 띤 그의 시세계는 추후의 논의를 통해 진전된 연구가 이루어져야 하리라 생각된다.
Poems of Choi Ha-rim focused on awareness of society, such as facing political and social issues of Korea. But in his later poems, he begins to describe scenery, which other studies have treated only in terms of the aesthetic features of scenery in his later poems. This essay starts on the necessity of a view, about political and social aspects of scenery in his later poems. It then categorizes phases of sceneries, and elaborates on considerations about awareness, which is implicit in the scenery in his poems. The important element of scenery of his later poems is a view of the poetic self. It appears to mixed phase reflecting the real world and being a part of the world. Sceneries which consist of these views are categorized by subjects about ‘silence’, ‘memories’, and ‘time’, which appear in each of his poems. The consideration to watch poetic objects in silence appears in ‘Scenery of silence’. In ‘Scenery of memories’, the memories are aligned by the flow of time, and images of the memories are overlapped with those of scenery. In the poem of that scenery, the poetic self recognizes reality from historical experience, by internalizing his or her memories. ‘Scenery of time’ induces poetic self to introspect ontologically. The poetic self introspects scenery of a point of time, and time of scenery flows in infinite space, which appears sublime. Choi Ha-rim showed consistent historical awareness all of his life. His later poems are focused on political and social issues as well as lyrical scenery. These poems should be discussed more in future studies.
