이 논문은 茶山 丁若鏞의 제자 李綱會가 저술한 자료를 발굴하여 그의 학술을 조명하였다. 이강회는 다산이 강진에서 가르친 제자 가운데 빼어난 성과를 거둔 학자로, 그의 저작 柳菴叢書雲谷雜著耽羅職方說玄洲漫錄은 최근 들어 발굴되었다. 이 논문은 그의 학문적 실상을 본격적으로 밝힌 첫 논문이라는 의의를 가진다. 이강회의 저작 가운데 운송수단인 선박과 수레의 제작법을 상세하게 설명하고, 수레 사용에 대해 적극적인 주장을 펼친 船說과 車說이 특별히 주목되는데, 그 주장에 이강회의 사상적 특징이 잘 반영되어 있다. 그는 선진적 문물의 수용과 상공업의 촉진, 편리한 생활을 위한 물품의 제작 및 기술교육, 적극적인 국토개발과 혁신적 정책의 추진을 주장하는데, 이러한 주장은 富國强兵과 利用厚生으로 귀결된다.종래 학계에서는 利用厚生의 주장과 논리는 朴趾源朴齊家가 펼친 學說의 핵심으로 다루어졌다. 이 논고를 통해 다산의 제자인 이강회가 그들이 역설한 利用厚生의 학문을 전문적으로 연구하여 계승발전시킨 사실이 밝혀짐으로써 實學의 전개에 새로운 시사점을 던진다. 서울과 경기 지역 학계의 학자들 중심으로 전개되던 實學이 정약용을 거쳐 지방으로까지 확산된 측면의 확인도 본 논문의 성과다.

This paper looks into the academic achievements of One pupil of Dasan(茶山), Yi Kang-heo(李綱會). Yi Kang-heo was a prominent scholar who was taught by Dasan in Kangjin. His writings, such as Ryuamchongseo(柳菴叢書), Un'gokjabjeo(雲谷雜著), Tamnajikbangseol(耽羅職方說), Hyeonjumanrok(玄洲漫錄) were recently excavated and this paper illuminates his academic phase for the first time. In his writings, some books explain the manufacturing method of ship and wagon and actively persist in using ship and wagon. According to his works, it is notable that he promoted the reception of the advanced culture and commercialization, the production of goods for the convenient life and the education of technology, and active land development and reformative strategy, which could lead to 'rich country and powerful army' and 'utilization and welfare'. From now on, it has been said that the argument and logic of 'utilization and welfare' were the core doctrine of Pak Ji-won and Pak Je-ga. This paper offers a new suggestion as to the existing researches on Practical Science(實學), by revealing that Yi Kang-heo succeeded and improved the science of utilization and welfare. Furthermore, it will be significant that this paper examines how Practical Science developed by the scholars near Seoul and Kyeonggi province was spread to the local area.
