본고는 심대윤 산문의 특징인 의론성의 실체와 의의를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 삼았다. 의론 산문의 관건은 참신한 立意와 설득력 있는 전개에 있다. 심대윤은 일반의 이해에서 한 걸음 더 나아간 문제를 제기하고 通道의 허를 찌르는 작품을 즐겨 창작하였다. 이를 위해서 다들 알고 있다고 생각하는 익숙한 지점을 집요하게 파고들어가고, 부정적으로 인식되는 대상을 재규정하며, 역발상과 반어로 통념을 흔드는 방식을 사용하였다. 세상살이에 畸人이었던 심대윤은 본인의 문장에 대한 자부심만은 대단했다. 改作과 擬作이 많다는 점, 역대 문장가와의 대결 의식을 보여주는 自註와 評語 등에서 심대윤의 창작 실험과 문장력에 대한 자부심을 볼 수 있다. 기존에 인정받아 온 작품들을 비틀고 뒤집고 다시 쓰는 작업을 진행하였다. 심대윤 산문에는 서로 대립되는 개념을 함께 제시하면서 하나 혹은 여럿의 이항대립을 전개의 축으로 삼아서 전개하는 작품이 많다. 심대윤이 즐겨 구사한 이항대립의 논법은 이항대립의 극복으로 나아가기 위한 포석의 성격을 지닌다. 그 극복은 주로 개념의 근원으로 돌아가 상대화시키거나, 또 다른 기준의 개입을 통해 재배치하는 방식으로 이루어지는데, 그 모든 것에 우선하는 개념이 公利다. 심대윤이 글을 쓰는 이유는 福利 사상을 전하고자 하는 데 있었다. 자신의 옳음만을 내세우며 따르라고 외치는 것이 능사가 아니고, 대중과 눈높이를 맞추고 보조를 함께하여 나아가야 한다는 것이 심대윤 사상의 특징이었다. 그의 산문에 유독 의론성이 강한 것은 바로 이 때문이었다. 당장 세상을 바꿀 수 없다 하더라도 글로 남겨야 언젠가 실현될 수 있으리라는 신념과 사명감에서 심대윤은 실로 다양한 방식으로 언젠가 누군가를 설득하기 위한 글쓰기를 시도한 것이다.

The persuasive characteristic(議論性) is what defines Sim Dae-yun's prose. This thesis will analyze the repetitive theme, the way of organizing the argument and rhetoric, after categorizing some of Sim's persuasive style prose, Ui-ron(議論), into several patterns. The key point of Ui-jak is the originality of the subject and the persuasiveness of the argument. Sim raised a question a step ahead of common thoughts and wrote prose works targeting the weak point of a stereotype. Strategies he used is throughly investigating a familiar aspect of life, redefining an object commonly recognized as something negative, reversing the way of thinking and using irony to disturb the common sense. Sim was very proud of his literary ability. His ui-jak(擬作) and gae-jok(改作) proses, a writing style that twists and rewrites famous literary works, show his experimental writing approach, and his own footnotes and the evaluation from his colleagues suggest his rivalrous attitude with successive writers. There are many works that is organized on the basis of one or more dichotomy, presenting pairs of counter-concepts, in Sim's prose. In his line of argument, he used those dichotomous concepts only to get over the dichotomy itself, by relativizing the ideas back to the origin of the concept, or reassembling those concepts with a new standard. In his writing, Sim tries to show a kind of utilitarianism. The idea that one should keep the pace with the average readers rather than be dogmatic, is what distinguishes his writing, and that's why he mainly wrote the persuasive style prose. In his conviction that even though he couldn't reform the society right away, his writing would preserve his ideas to be realized, he wrote a variety of prose works to persuade someone in the future.
