As the business environment has rapidly changed, many universities have started to offer more flexible and diverse curricula to produce students who would be able to meet the needs of the current job market. In this regard, this study examines the feasibility of establishing a professional secretarial study course at K University. K University was selected because its geographical accessibility, gender ratio, and environment were conducive to such a program. A survey of 690 freshmen was conducted to determine whether students in majors related to secretarial study would be willing to undertake a professional secretarial study course. To determine the acceptability of the secretary position as a profession, a telephone survey was conducted of female assistants in companies, law firms, and public offices. In addition, academic curricula of colleges with secretarial study courses were analyzed. The results of the study suggest that a professional secretarial study course could be successfully created through robust examination and practical training programs. Further, such a program would be highly successful as an academic field and would satisfy industry needs. These results are expected to be helpful not only for four-year colleges that may be interested in establishing a professional secretarial program but also for two-year college graduates of secretarial programs who wish to continue their professional studies in the field.
