The purpose of this study is to investigate whether tourist’s narcissism influences tourism motivation within a tourism destination setting. Specifically, this study analyzes the effect of tourist’s narcissism on tourism motivation, and then tests the effect of tourism motivation on cultural assimilation to tourism destination. The study results indicated as follows. First, tourist’s narcissism played an important role in forming tourism motivation. More specifically, inter-personal(covert) narcissism influenced both tourist’s intrinsic motivation and tourist’s extrinsic motivation, whereas intra-personal(overt) narcissism influenced tourist’s extrinsic motivation. Second, it is approved that tourist motivation relatively influenced on tourist’s cultural assimilation. The results show that tourist’s acculturation intention had an effect on local cultural adaptation. Based on study findings, theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
