The number of studies has focused on job stress in the hotel industry. However, previous studies have overlooked the consequences of job stress such as loneliness and life satisfaction in tourism and hospitality. In this respect, the concept of loneliness was borrowed from the realms of psychology, education, and organization behavior as a critical consequence of job stress. Given this significance, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among the salient constructs such as job stress, loneliness, and life satisfaction in a comprehensive manner. Based on the literature of previous studies in diverse fields, four hypotheses were suggested. To reach the proposed hypotheses, a total of 376 responses were collected from upscale hotels located at Korea's top-three tourist destinations, which were utilized for empirical analyses in this study. Results showed that job stress had a positive impact on loneliness and a negative impact on life satisfaction, respectively. Loneliness was also found to have a negative impact on life satisfaction. In addition, loneliness was significantly observed to mediate between job stress and life satisfaction. These results may offer a new theoretical implication with regard to the mediating effect on loneliness in the relationship between job stress and life satisfaction, which may contribute to the development of new managerial guidelines in the hotel industry.
