ate 16th century middle Korean (Dialect) and modern Gyo˘ngnam Dialect. The comparison of tonemic systems must be considered on the basis of underlyiag, middle, or final tonemic representations, not surface pitch forms. A study of correspondence of tones also has to include research of the same qualities of tonological rules, especially neutralization rules. The correspodanees of the tonemic systems of the two dialects are as follows: (1) the correspondences of tones (표) (2) the correspondences of tonemic pattern (표) (3) the correspondences of tonemic terms (표) All the Korean tone dialects including the 15∼16th Century Korean have the following neutralization rule. (4) All the tones or sequences of tones are neutralized in the environmeat `/marked tone ______`. Current tonological theories make two serious mistakes. One is to neglect neutralization rules, and the other is to consider high tone as the mark for prediction of surface pitch form without any introspection. True marks for prediction are marked tones. We have to notice that marked tones in Gyo˘ngnam dialect are L(ow) and M(id).
