This paper measures industrial independence of regions and analyzes interregional complementarity in Korea. First, we identify regions with high dependence and low dependence, and investigate industries with comparative advantages and disadvantages in each region. In analyzing interregional complementarity, we investigate whether each metropolitan area has complementary industrial structure with tits neighboring “Do” area, and whether metropolitan areas altogether have complementary industrial structure with “Do” areas. Moreover, we identify regions whose industrial structure is highly complementary with other regions altogether, metropolitan areas whose industrial structure is highly complementary with “Do”areas, and “Do” areas whose industrial structure is highly complementary with metropolitan areas altogether. To analyse between regional independence and interregional complementarity, I use independence index and complementary index. The result of regressional analysing shows us that regional independence affected by economic factors and interregional complementarity affected by economic and geographic factors.
