이 글은 한국적 음악극(뮤지컬)이라는 목적을 가진 전통 소재의 작품들이 지속적으로 창작되고 있는 양상에 대해 관심을 가지고 있다. 이를 위해 「춘향가」와 「심청가」라는 두 고전 작품을 한꺼번에 패러디 하고, 두 작품의 장르 중 판소리에서 ‘창’을, 동명 창극에서 ‘도창(導唱)’의 형태를 뮤지컬 양식과 접목한「인당수 사랑가」를 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 이 작품은 뮤지컬이라는 장르로 이행되면서 다양한 시도를 했으며 음악적인 측면에서 다른 작품들과 변별력을 가지고 있다. 「인당수 사랑가」는 실험적 학풍에 영향을 받은 창작자들의 유기적 작업이 있었다. 원작을 패러디 하여 사랑에 대한 현대적 시각으로 주제를 확장했다. 도창의 활용으로 노래의 질을 높이고, 배우로서의 기능(상황설명, 장면연결, 감정이입, 극중 배역, 마무리)을 확대하였다. 기존의 창(춘향가, 심청가), 작창, 창작곡 세 가지로 구분되며, 특히 도창의 ‘창’이 극의 내용과 밀접한 호응을 하면서 관객의 정서에 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 이 작품이 의미가 있는 것은 뮤지컬이라는 서구의 극적 형태와 창극이라는 근대 한국 극 양식이 ‘도창’이라는 형태를 통해 결합하고 있다는 점이다. 즉 전통적인 요소들이 음악과 드라마에서 적절하게 조화되어서 작품의 완성도를 높였다는 점에서 이전 공연과 구분되는 가치를 획득 했다. 또한 서구식 뮤지컬 형태에서 출발하지 않더라도 전통적 소리와 드라마가 조화롭게 공존하여 관객에게 감동을 주었다는 것이 한국적 뮤지컬이 나아가야 할 방향성이라 판단한다. 이 작품은 한국적 뮤지컬의 진보적 방향성을 드러내고 있다.
This is aimed at the aspects of the works with traditional materials which have been created with a view to Korean style staging and music, musical. I chose Indang's Blues, a parody of two classics, Chunhyang-ga and Simcheong-ga, which is composed by Park Sea-bom and produced by Choi Seong-sin. I especially pay attention to Chang of Pansori in Indang's Blues and to the method of combining forms of Doh-Chang and styles of Musical. This work is performed as a genre of Musical and with a variety of trials, thus achieving some distinctiveness. I analyze which effects the correlation among Doh-Chang's Chang, Musical numbers, and a drama achieve in trying a Korean Traditional Musical. Indang's Blues has resulted from some writers' organically conducted effort who are influenced by the method of experimental study. Doh-Chang's part as an actor or an actress (explaining a situation, connecting scenes, empathy, a cast of a play, and finishing) is more extended than before as one factor in a Changgeuk(Korean Traditional Pansori Opera). Hereupon it is improper that the work is considered as a succession of Changgeuk simply with a introducing Doh-Chang. Musical numbers are divided into the original Chang(Chunhyang-ga and Simcheong-ga), the music created and sung by Doh-Chang, and the composed music and especially the chang performed by Doh-Chang responds closely to the story of a play, having a direct influence on audience's emotion. In a case of drama, Indang's Blues is based on the description of deeds and the circumstance is changed with an addition of the character of Simcheong-ga. For this reason, the theme is extended to a contemporary view and interpretation of love. The great distinctiveness is that the work succeeds in combining Musical, a western dramatical style, and Changgeuk, Korean dramatical style through Doh-Chang. That is, traditional elements are in harmony with music and drama, bringing the work to perfection, which makes a distinction from other works. Also, this work touches audience's hearts with traditional sounds and drama in harmony without employing a western musical style, which is a course to which the Musical of Korea makes it's way. Indang's Blues shows a growing direction of Korean Musical.
