Terminology used in textbooks should be correct. If Terminology is incorrect or improper, knowledge described in the textbooks may be misunderstood. When teaching the course, History of Education, I have Found that a lot of terminology is misused, especially, in occidental medieval history. There are two kinds of terminological misuse: (1)mistranslation and (2) misrepresenta -tion. For example, "cathedral school" is mistranslated into "sawon(temple) school". Pronouns and jargons being mistranslated, their original meaning will be misunderstood. And korean representation of foreign pronouns and person may be different from foreign representations. The differences can make their meaning ambiguous and vague. To correct terminological misuse in the textbook, I propose the following. 1. To make a committee, composed of scholars, to correct misused terminology. 2.To observe the rules which religious jargons are represented in the religion-world concerned. 3.To use korean pronunciations which are the most similar to original pronunciation. 4. To use person`s name of the period in which he/she lived. Because, after Dante`s death, Latin was changed in spelling and pronunciation. 5. To represent non-English person`s name in the original pronunciation.
