An Aspect and Significance of Lee, Hae-jo's Adapted Novel from Pansori through Okjunghwa(獄中花)？

신소설작가인 이해조가 산정한 판소리 <옥중화>, <토의간>, <연의각>, <강상련>은 판소리계 소설 내에서 큰 이본군을 형성하고 있다. 본고에서는 이해조의 개작이 가장 많이 가해지고 있는 <옥중화>를 통해 개작 판소리의 양상과 이해조의 개작의식에 대해 살펴보았다. <옥중화>의 모본이 되었다고 하는 <박기홍조 춘향가>와 <옥중화>를 면밀히 살펴본 결과, 그동안 알려진 바와 달리 <옥중화>는 비속한 말들도 그대로 살아 있고 어느 이본보다도 풍부한 사설을 담고 있었다. 이해조의 판소리 개작 목적이 기존 판소리를 자신의 의도에 맞게 다 바로 잡는데 있기 보다는 이미 좀 늦었지만 있는 그 상태로의 보존에 초점을 맞춘 것이다. 적층문학으로서의 판소리가 가진 변이 가능성이 작품을 발전시키기 보다는 판소리 광대의 학문의 부족함 때문에 점점 타락하여 가고 있다는 것이 그의 생각이었다. 이해조는 판소리의 교훈적 가치에 주목하면서, 기존의 판소리를 훼손하지 않고 유지 전승하는 것에 목적을 두고 있었다. 한편, 이들 소설에서 이해조의 개작역할이 그리 크지 않았음에도 불구하고 판소리계소설에서 큰 이본군을 형성하게 된 요인에 대해서도 생각해 보았다. 구활자본 판소리계 소설에서 이해조 산정 판소리들이 차지하는 비율은 80%를 넘고 있는데, 이는 이해조의 작가적 명성과 신소설식의 제목 그리고, 출판사의 유통망과 판매전략 등이 어우러지고 독자들이 이에 호응한 결과다. 이들은 후에 당시 성행했던 창극의 영향을 받아 <증상연예 옥중가인>, <도상 옥중화>와 같이 변형된 형태로도 등장했고 큰 호응을 얻었다.

I researched their aspects and Lee's intention of the adaptation through Okjungwha, shows the largest variation. I compared Okjungwha with Park, Gi-hong's Chunhayng-ga, the original text. Therefore I conclude that Lee saves the original vulgar expressions. Lee's intention of the adaptation was to preserve the pansori as it was rather than to amend it by his purpose. He thought that pansori was vulnerable to gwangdae's uncultivated idea. He paid attention to pansori's function as a moral culture and focused to preserve it and to hand down as the original content. I researched the cause of popularity in Lee's adapted pansori even though he had nothing particular to change. His adapted versions of pansori occupied over 80% in Guhwaljabon pansori soseol. Because Lee, Hae-jo had renown for an author, the title was sinsoseol-style and publishing company's distribution and marketing strategy were efficient. Most important element was the reading public's enthusiastic reaction. Afterwards, Lee's version transformed into Jeungsangyeonyeokjunggain, Dosangokjunghwa were influenced by Changgeuk, and had a good reputation.
