근대 예술사에 커다란 족적을 남겼던 기생은 ‘자유연애’로 표상되는 근대 연애의 주체였다. 그러나 기생은 그 신분적 제약으로 인해 사랑의 결말에까지 이르지 못했다. 그런 점에서 ‘정사’를 통해 사랑의 극단적 결말에 이른 기생 ‘강명화’는 사회적으로 이슈가 될 수밖에 없었고, 이러한 사회의 관심은 강명화를 다양한 텍스트 양식 속에서 구현해 내었다. 그 과정에서 강명화는 점점 미화되어 갔다. 강명화의 연애담이 텍스트화되는 과정 속에는 이를 이용해 그 시대의 대중을 교화시키려는 정치적 의도가 숨겨져 있다. 1920년대에는 ‘강명화’의 죽음을 미화함으로 정조 관념을 부각시키려 했고, 이는 일부다처의 상징적 존재였던 기생 철폐의 근거를 마련하는 것이기도 했다. 1930년대 중반에는 ‘민족의 심미화’에 앞장섰던 『삼천리』를 통해 강명화는 전보다 더 미화되어 ‘희생의 아이콘’으로 다시 호명된다. 강명화의 정사사건은 기사로 보도되어 회자되면서 하나의 연애 담론을 형성하고, 다시 텍스트로 재구성되었다. 이러한 점은 ‘담론의 형성과 텍스트로의 귀착’ 관계를 잘 보여준다. 뿐만 아니라, 강명화의 정사사건은 소설화되면서 기존의 소설 양식을 그대로 답습했다는 한계를 보여주기도 한다. 이는 ‘문학의 필연성·연속성’을 의미하는 것이기도 하다. 이러한 지점들 속에 강명화 소재 텍스트 양식의 문학사적 연구의 당위성이 있는 것이다.
It was the subject of modern love as symbolized a ‘Free love’ that gisaeng had left her great footprints in the modern art history. But gisaeng couldn’t reach the result of love due to her limitation of social status. In that sense, ‘Kang Myeong-hwa’ is bound to be the social issue to become the dramatic result of love through ‘a love affair’. Kang Myeong-Hwa is shown through different kinds of genre of texts by social interests, in that time she is getting embellished beautifully. There’s a hidden thing of a political intention to tame the public in the story through the process of textualizing the Kang Myeong-Hwa’s love story. In 1920s, many media wanted to bring into relief the sense of virtue by embellishing her death, and this is to arrange the foundation of removing the Gisaeng that was the symbolic existence of polygamy culture. She who led stand to national aesthetic through the magazine of ‘Sam Cheon-Lee’ became more embellished, and finally be called as a ‘symbol of sacrifice’ in the mid of 1930. Kang Myeong-Hwa’s love affair was reported as an article, having been in everyone’s mouth, it is shaped the discussion of love story, and it is reformed to the text again. Fianlly this shows the relationship of ‘formation of discussion and conclusion to the texts’. In addition, Kang Myeong-Hwas’s love affair is defined the bound a text that had followed the existing of style of novel, as it is fictionalized. In another view, it also means ‘the necessity and continuity of literature’. In this point, it has the justification to study a text that has the subject as Kang Myeong-Hwa in literary historical.
