셀픽션은 전세계적으로 유행하고 있는 매우 중요한 문화콘텐츠 창작물이다. ‘우화형 자기계발서’라고도 불리는 셀픽션(slfiction)은 ‘자기계발(self help)’과 ‘소설(fiction)’의 합성어이다. 순수 문학 장르의 서사적 특성이 자기계발서나 경영 서적의 서사 전략으로 유효하게 활용됨으로써 나타난 것이 셀픽션이라는 새로운 장르이다. 본고에서 집중적으로 논의한 셀픽션 작품은 매우 폭넓은 독자층을 지니고 있는 『누가 내 치즈를 옮겼을까?』,『마시멜로 이야기』,『칭찬은 고래도 춤추게 한다』,『청소부 밥』등이다. 본고는 이들 셀픽션 작품의 서사 구조와 서사 방법을 면밀히 규명하였다. 나아가 본고는 셀픽션의 서사 구조 및 서사 방법이 순수 문학이 지닌 서사 구조 및 서사 방법과 어떻게 다른지에 관해서도 논의하였다. 『누가 내 치즈를 옮겼을까?』,『마시멜로 이야기』는 전형적인 우화의 형식을 추구한 반면, 『칭찬은 고래도 춤추게 한다』와 『청소부 밥』에 나타난 이야기는 전형적인 우화형식을 벗어나는 현대소설적 특성을 보인다. 이런 다양성과는 상관없이 모든 셀픽션은 서사 구조의 보편적 활용, 친숙한 영웅형 인물의 등장, 주인공의 관찰과 적용 및 필자의 배려, 실용적 가치와 정신적인 가치의 조화 등을 추구하였다. 2010-2011년 출판시장에서 셀픽션이 강세를 띠지 못했던 것은 신간 셀픽션이 식상한 소재와 주제를 반복하고 있기 때문이다. 진부함을 넘어서는 새로운 서사 구조가 요청되는 시점이다. 실용적인 내용뿐만 아니라 독자의 정서적 공감을 형성할 수 있는 신규의 서사 구조와 방법이 나와야 할 것이다.
Selfiction is very important cultural content creation to be in fashion globally. The compound word "selfiction"-it is called an allegoric self-help book- is formed from the words "self help" and "fiction". What appeared as narrative nature of pure literature genre is used to narrative strategy books about self-improvement or management is said to selfiction. Selfiction works focused a discussion on this manuscript are 『Who Moved My Cheese?』,『Don't Eat the Marshmallow... Yet!』,『Whale Done!』, 『The Janitor』 to have a wide class of readers to be a box office hit. This manuscript investigated the narrative structure and narrative method of selfiction thoroughly. Furthermore, this manuscript expiscated how the narrative structure and narrative method of selfiction differed from the narrative structure and narrative method of the pure literature. The research was settling into the three points. First, the borrowing of the storytelling technique can be easy strategy to secure the readers. But, easy narrative structure than complicated novelistic composition is suited to be magnified.Second, it is due to selfiction repeating a trite material that selfiction was not strong in the major book marts of 2010. Development of new contents and new narrative structure are required. Third, not only practical contents but, development of new contents which can form emotional identification is required.
