이 글은『고시조대전』에 수록된 5,563수의 시조에서 강태공, 도연명, 유영 등의 인물 소재가 어떤 이미지로 구현되었는지를 고찰하였다. 우선 인물별로 얼마나 다양한 이미지로 제시되었는지를 검토하고 작품별 가집 수록 빈도를 정리한 후 가집 최고 수록 빈도 작품을 대상으로 이미지 구현의 실제 양상을 자세하게 분석해 보았다. 그 결과 강태공은 ‘위수변에서 주 문왕을 만나 주나라의 대업을 이룬 인물’ 등 네 유형의 이미지로 제시되었으며 가집 최고 수록 빈도 작품(『고시조대전』 4237번/44종 가집 수록)은 주로 19세기 후반 이후부터 20세기 초·중반의 시조집에 집중적으로 수록되었다는 특징이 있었다. 한편 도연명은 ‘귀거래를 한 인물’ 등 다섯 유형의 이미지로 제시되었으며 가집 최고 수록 빈도 작품(『고시조대전』5495번/73종 가집 수록)은 1761년에 편찬된『해아수』부터 1946년의『조선고전가사집』에까지 광범위하면서도 오랫동안 전승된 인기 있는 작품이었음을 파악하였다. 마지막으로 유영은 ‘술과 관련된 인물’이라는 이미지만으로 제시된 점이 특징이었으며 가집 최고 수록 빈도 작품(『고시조대전』2268번/66종 가집 수록)은 1728년에 편찬된 진본『청구영언』부터 1946년에 편찬된『조선고전가사집』에 이르기까지 200년이 넘는 장구한 세월 동안 인기를 누렸다. 이 논의에서는 인물 소재의 이미지 구현 양상을 가집 수록 빈도를 고려하여 파악함으로써 향유층의 실질적 호감도를 보다 정밀하게 판단할 수 있었다.
This paper is to study the patterns of the characteristic materials recorded on 5,563 Sijo included in Unabridged Dictionary of Gosijo. There are 493 People who are used as a material in the works that has been recorded in Unabridged Dictionary of Gosijo. The frequency of appearance is following in descending order. Jiang Shang, Tao Yan Ming and Liu Ling was appeared 29 times. In this paper, I present comprehensively the various implemented images by the characters and I analyzed the frequency of contain in collections of poems by works. Focused on the most included Sijo of the works, I examine the aspects of realization of the representative characters. As a result, Jiang Shang has imagined as a great strategist, helped the first king of the Zhou dynasty overthrow the Shang dynasty. Tao Yan Ming also has imagined as a person who had homecoming after his resignation from a government office. Liu Ling has imagined as a person who has reminded alcohol. I consider not only the frequency of appearance in an unit of the individual work but consider the frequency of contain in collections of poems. So it is possible to determine the degrees of enjoying the characteristic materials more precisely. A discussion as above has the significance as a groundwork to reveal aesthetic characters.
