모윤숙의 『내가 본 세상』(1953)은 미국과 유럽을 여행한 기행문이다. 이 기행문은 서양문명에 대한 동경에서 시작한 사적인 여행이 아니라 YWCA국제회의의 대표로 참석한 미국여행과 유엔총회 대표단의 일원으로 참여하면서 일기식으로 기록한 세계여행기이자 유엔 참관기이다. 이 기행문은 일반적인 여행기가 여행을 다녀온 후 회고담 형식으로 여정을 서술하는 것과 달리 날짜를 기록하여 그날의 체험을 중심으로 전개한 글이다. 그래서 이 기행문의 글쓰기 방식은 그날그날 자신이 직접 체험한 사실과 그것에 대한 느낌을 생생하게 기술하는 서술방식을 취하고 있다. 그래서 이 기행문은 유엔총회에서 대한민국 정부수립에 관한 국제회의 일정과 과정이 상세하게 소개되어 남한만의 단독정부 수립의 과정에서 일어난 이면사를 볼 수 있는 현장의 기록으로 국제사회 속에서 대한민국이라는 국가에 대한 정체성을 재확인하는 자료적 의미도 있다. 또한 서양에 대한 막연한 동경에서 서양의 오리엔탈리즘을 극복할 수 있는 토대를 마련하는 데에 의미가 있다. 미국의 체험 속에서 자본주의 문명을 비판하고, 영국, 프랑스, 스웨덴, 이태리, 인도 등에서는 각국의 문화를 다양하게 비교한 문명 비판적 인식을 찾아 볼 수 있기 때문이다. 또한 모윤숙이 여성이라는 점에서 서양문명에 경도된 경이로움과 충격을 먼저 제시하지 않고 각 나라의 가정생활과 교육, 연애 등 여성 역할에 관심을 표명한 여성들의 다양한 삶은 비교적 객관적인 태도를 유지하고 있으면서 이러한 문화인식으로 동양여성, 한국여성이라는 자기 정체성을 확립한 모윤숙의 인식을 파악할 수 있는 기행문이 된다.
『I’ve ever seen the world』(1949) written Mo, Yun-sook is travel essay to tour of Europe and America. This work is not to begin with longing about Western civilization. This work is diaristic travel notes joining as representative of International Council of the YMCA and a member of the UN General Assembly delegates. Unlike a general travel notebook to trust to memory after journey, this essay has the property of being built around a group of the day’s experience. This work vividly describes her experience and feeling about the experience. This work is minutely introduces the UN International Conference reschedule about the establishment of the Republic of Korea, and field notes showing the hidden side of the history happened in process of the establishment of South Korea's single government. Furthermore, the essay functions as a role of materials understanding of process of reconfirming the identity of Republic of Korea in international society. So this travel essay does not begin with a vague yearning about the West, but shows Western thought recording from Korean woman’s view. There is criticism about capitalist civilization in the recording out of American experience, and is critical recognition of civilization comparing culture in every country in recording experience from the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Italy and India. As objectively describes women’s life around the world, Mo, Yun-sook show Korean women’s identity. Comparing women’s social position, home life, education, and a view of love, it noted universality and difference of culture. Through this, this book shows Mo, Yun-sook’s consciousness trying to establish Korean woman’s self-respect pride and identity.
